More writing does not make you a better writer - only reading does that. But writing can help thinking, problem solving and make you smarter. The method is not ChatGPT …. It is revision.

@mattvsjapan Translating between Japanese and English drives me insane. These languages are culturally totally alien to each other, and so much gets lost in translation. That said, I prefer Murakami in English , probably because his Japanese makes everything sound so in-Japanese.
@skrashen@ResearchGate Forced reading worked for me too. I had to read many English books, including 1984 by George Orwell, for the International Baccalaureate. Having to pass the exams worked for me. I now consider myself fully bilingual in English and Japanese, and reading is the no.1 reason.
@mattvsjapan They are at work. Japanese people don’t chat away while on duty. I know they’re only getting paid a pittance, but they are still totally aware of being monitored through the CCTV, etc.
@mattvsjapan I’m Japanese and I seriously believe very few people there have ‘ikigai’. I live elsewhere now, but don’t ask me if I have it- that way madness lies! 😆
@tokini_andy @JEverettLearned Written and spoken Japanese are two different things. So, if you want to learn written Japanese, that may be one way of approaching it. As a visual learner, it won’t work for me: it’ll be a total waste of my time.
@LanguageVlogs@mattvsjapan I don’t think you should try to learn languages without context. If you’re only using it to prepare for language proficiency tests, that’s another story. Passing them doesn’t necessarily mean you are fluent, but you can put it down on your CV.
Conventional methods don't teach Spoken Japanese. Snow Monkey and Bee help students who want to improve their spoken/conversational Japanese. https://t.co/SibHpZl2W4 via @FacebookWatch#japaneselanguage#learningjapanese
I have been incredibly bad at publicising this, but if you missed this gem of a show at #EdFringe, don't worry!
It's gonna be at @billmurraypub next week for ONE NIGHT ONLY!
