A Venezuelan migrant accused of the rape and murder of a Polish doctoral student has gone on trial behind closed doors in Toruń.

Klaudia K was stabbed 12 times in the head, neck and chest, with one of the stab wounds causing irreversible brain damage. He also gouged out her eyes before raping her.

She was taken to Toruń City Hospital but never regained consciousness and passed away on June 27 last year, two weeks after the attack.
