A smuggling vessel carrying 22 illegal immigrants including 13 🇨🇳 nationals was intercepted by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Coast Guard in a rare and "extremely dangerous" attempt to enter the US through Florida.
The boat was stopped and the migrants aboard were arrested without incident on Sep 15. The interdiction took place near Angelfish Creek, Florida, near Key Largo.
A CBP Air and Marine Operations multi-role enforcement aircraft first detected the vessel. The interdiction, carried out by CBP alongside Coast Guard personnel, resulted in the apprehension of one suspected smuggler, a Cuban national, 13 Chinese nationals, eight Ecuadorian nationals and one Dominican national.
It is extremely rare for Chinese nationals to attempt to enter the US through maritime Caribbean routes that are typically used by Haitians, Dominicans and Cubans. During the Biden administration, Chinese nationals typically entered the US through land routes in California and Texas, which are now subject to tighter enforcement under the Trump administration.

Welcome the joint statement by the #US, #Japan & #Korea stressing their opposition to any attempts to unilaterally change the status quo & support for freedom of navigation & overflight. This is a powerful statement against coercive behaviors by the #PRC in the #IndoPacific.
19 defendants were charged. They drove trucks to restaurants and stole and attempted to steal used cooking oil from oil collection tanks located at restaurents throughout Iowa, Tennessee, Minnesota, Indiana, Ohio, Alabama, Illinois, Nebraska, Missouri and Kentucky. Defendants then collected the stolen used cooking oil to warehouses throughout the US.

6 Damning Reasons China Cannot Escape Responsibility for Nepal’s Catastrophic Floods
1. China received the first warning. The flood struck Gyirong on the Tibetan side, 45 minutes before reaching downstream communities in Nepal. That was plenty of time to take measures to warn the neighboring nations.
2. No effective warning reached Nepal. In a disaster moving across borders, even minutes could have saved lives. And China had 45 minutes to do it, which is the difference between evacuation and mass death.
3. China initially blamed an earthquake. The USGS later concluded that the seismic signal came from the massive glacier and debris collapse itself.
4. China is transforming the region. Highways, railways, dams and settlements are being forced through one of Earth’s most fragile and seismically active mountain systems.
5. Chinese scientists warned Beijing. They identified unstable slopes, weak geological cohesion and the danger of cascading failures. yet construction continued.
6. China buried the scale: Chinese reporting initially emphasized only a handful of confirmed deaths even as hundreds remained missing in Tibet and devastation was clearly visible across the border region. China tried to cover up the incident the way it covered up Covid 19 in November 2019 by censoring information online.
China must disclose its monitoring data, warning timeline and environmental assessments and explain whether its infrastructure intensified the destruction, instead of posting propaganda videos of PLA solders arriving late onto the scene.
Nepal deserves evidence, transparency and accountability. The Himalayas do not recognize political borders. But responsibility cannot disappear behind one.
*** ON WHAT IS CURRENTLY KNOWN AND WHAT IS UNKNOWABLE ABOUT THE NEPAL-TIBETAN LANDSLIDE DISASTER ***
There are always wild speculations in the immediate aftermath of any disaster, and in the case of the Nepal–Tibet landslides, those have ranged from secret glacier server farms (!!!) to a burst Chinese dam to geoengineering. As of now, this is just noise as they are unverifiable.
What is NOT noise is China’s information control.
User-generated footage of the tidal wave of mud and water hitting Gyirong Port, the main China-Nepal crossing, vanished quickly from WeChat and other Chinese platforms.
State media has instead focused on rescue operations and leadership visits including Premier Li Qiang's. It has shown little of the devastation or victim accounts. Bear in mind, just as the BBC rightly points out here, that foreign journalists have almost no access to Tibet which China has annexed decades ago.
Almost everything that you will read in the Western media comes from official Chinese sources, so read the news coverage with that constraint in mind.
China’s confirmed-death count started at 3 and remains far lower than Nepal’s, even though the port was hit directly and video showed crowds fleeing.
As of August 30, Nepal reports 734 dead and 2,498 missing, including hundreds of foreigners and roughly 900 hydropower workers, some trapped in tunnels.
China reports 16 dead and 546 missing, including 261 foreigners (104 Nepalis, 49 Indians, 33 Latvians, 18 Americans, 15 Britons, and others). That gap, plus the censorship, is why this leaves a sense of deja vu to many people who have witnessed Chinese actions during covid - downplay the scale, tightly manage the narrative, fail to warn neighbors. Nepali officials, including a minister, have said they received no timely cross-border alert from China.
What is actually true about Chinese activity in Nepal?
Nepal is a sovereign state balancing India and China, calling itself “the yam between two rocks.” It joined the Belt and Road Initiative, takes Chinese infrastructure and hydropower investment, and consistently affirms the One China policy while restricting anti-China activity, especially on Tibet.
China’s economic and political weight in Nepal has grown to the point that some now describe it as close to a vassal relationship.
There are multiple hydropower projects in the Nepali valleys where so many workers are missing. Further up in the Tibetan region, there is also extensive mining, blasting, and slope work being done. All of this development, in theory, can increase exposure and can disturb slopes and permafrost. But we don't really know if Chinese construction has changed drainage or slope stability in that specific area.
The affected corridor is heavily built-up and settled, and yes the same area has flooded before.
That is what can be established. Wilder claims remain unproven until independent teams can access the region. The official account on both sides is still climatic and glacial - that a glacier collapsed and caused an ice-rock avalanche, not an engineering failure on the Chinese side. A mixed cause is possible, but until China opens the area, it simply cannot be tested.
This is likely to become one of the most haunting images of 2026.
A Chinese university lecturer murdered his Chinese student in Korea, dismembered her, then put on her clothes and left with a suitcase to dispose of the body.
Gallup Korea polls indicate that Lee's approval rates are declining further at 42% while disapproval is at 50%
DPK support is also declining, currently at 39% (PPP 25%)
Some other polls place Lee's approval rate at below 40%, which is definitely a red flag for LJM
The #PRC’s new regulations on entry & exit will take effect on Sept 15. Forcibly obtaining personal digital data & other arbitrary rules intertwined with new laws would provide #TNR with new legal tools. Those who plan to visit #China should THINK TWICE.
Remember, @DavidMcGuinty - pressed by Ottawa reporters on details of hostile state interference in the 2024 NSICOP report, told reporters they should be aware of influence in their own media companies. I have direct insights, I’ve already pointed towards a BC broadcaster + staff
China's Super-Dam is Becoming an Upstream Water Bomb
China is constructing an unprecedented hydropower project in Tibet designed to generate 3X the electricity of the Three Gorges Dam. The site sits in a volatile, highly seismic Himalayan tectonic zone prone to major earthquakes and landslides.

BREAKING: The Trump administration has paused all U.S. immigrant visa applications worldwide.
The State Department is restricting visas for applicants deemed likely to rely on U.S. government assistance.
A State Department official confirmed that the initiative has begun at U.S. embassies and consulates.
A big victory for returning to immigration sanity.
