This photo is HOPE. The hope of finding someone alive. Of hearing a metallic tap on a pipe, a whisper calling for help. Sometimes with no equipment at all — just bare hands and hope. Families, friends, Hope is powerful. Sometimes it’s all we have left….😞🙏🫶🏻

The tide is turning for Ukraine.
The situation in 2026 is very different from 2025.
Ukraine is bravely holding the frontline.
Russia’s fatigue is openly showing.
That’s the time to double down on our support.
With the first disbursement of the €90 billion EU loan.
With a winter package to support Ukraine later in the year.
The G7 stands in support of a strong and sovereign Ukraine.
Our intelligence services reported receiving data, including from American and European partners, about Russia preparing a strike with the Oreshnik missile. We are verifying this information.
We are seeing signs of preparation for a combined strike on Ukrainian territory, including Kyiv, involving various types of weaponry. The specified intermediate-range weapons could be used in such a strike. It is important to act responsibly on air-raid alerts, starting this evening. Russian madness truly knows no bounds, so please protect your lives – use shelters.
Second, we are drawing the attention of our partners in the United States and in Europe to the fact that the use of such weapons and the prolongation of this war also sets a global precedent for other potential aggressors. If Russia is allowed to destroy lives on such a scale, then no agreement will restrain other similar hatred-based regimes from aggression and strikes. We count on a response from the world – and on a response that is not post factum, but preventive. Pressure must be put on Moscow so that it does not expand the war.
Third, we are preparing our air defense as much as possible, and we will respond fully justly to every Russian strike. We have given permission for a parade, but Russia has no permission for madness. This war must be ended – we need peace, not some missiles satisfying the sick ambitions of one individual. I thank everyone helping to protect lives. Once again, please take care of yourselves and use shelters tonight.

Pope Leo answered whether his statement that “God does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war” applies to all who take up arms, even in self-defense, or only to unjust aggressors.
Self-defense has always been allowed by the Church, Pope Leo XIV said.
“To talk about just war today, itʼs a very complex problem. You have to analyze it on many levels, but ever since the entrance into the nuclear age, the whole concept of war has to be reevaluated with terms today,” Leo said.
For a war to be justified, according to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, it must be waged to fight against a grave evil, the damage caused by waging the war cannot be graver than the evil it is meant to eliminate, there must be a serious prospect of success, and all alternatives to war must have already been tried. The decision to go to war must be made by a lawful authority responsible for the common good. All criteria must be met to qualify as a just war.
Today we celebrate World Press Freedom Day, sponsored by UNESCO. Unfortunately, this right is often violated, sometimes flagrantly, sometimes in hidden ways. Let us remember the many journalists and reporters who are victims of war and violence.
We're celebrating all runners who took part in the #LondonMarathon this year, each with their own story, motivation, and cause they proudly supported, including the runners for the #InvictusGames Foundation.
From months of early mornings and long training runs to the energy of race day, every finisher showed commitment, resilience, and determination to reach the start line and beyond.
A huge congratulations to everyone who took on the challenge and crossed the finish line this year.
Thank you to Brigantes for the wonderful kit that was given to all our runners!
I wish I could write more… but the video speaks for itself. Morning in the city of Dnipro right now. This is not what you would want to see this Saturday morning, but unfortunately, this is the reality of life in Ukraine, and there are very few positive moments. Every morning in some city, someone either hasn’t woken up at all, or is waiting for rescuers while trapped in a destroyed apartment, or is standing next to their home... watching their whole life go down the drain.
The aftermath of the nighttime shelling of the city. Sumy, Kharkiv, Odesa, Chernihiv, and Kyiv regions were also under attack. However, Dnipro suffered the most tonight.
Right now, 11 people are in hospitals in Dnipro after Russia’s attack on the city. A rescue operation continues at the site of the strike on a residential building. People may still be trapped under the rubble. Throughout nearly the entire night, the Russians struck Dnipro and our other cities and communities. As of now, over 30 people have been reported wounded across Ukraine. There are also casualties in the Chernihiv, Odesa, and Kharkiv regions. Tragically, there are fatalities… Four people have been killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones.
Russia’s tactics remain unchanged — attack drones, cruise missiles, and a significant number of ballistic missiles. Most targets are civilian infrastructure in cities. Residential buildings, energy facilities, and businesses have been damaged.
Each such strike must remind our partners that the situation requires immediate and decisive action. We need rapid strengthening of our air defense – and I am grateful for the decisions taken on Thursday during the meetings in Cyprus regarding additional contributions to the PURL initiative. There are political decisions from several European countries, and it is important that they are implemented as quickly as possible.
We must also move forward now toward the 21st package of European sanctions against Russia. The pause caused by the blocking of the 20th package gave the aggressor additional time to adapt – it is important to counter this. We are already in contact with the EU team regarding possible new sanctions steps. The key objective is to significantly limit the capabilities of Russia’s military-industrial complex. I thank everyone who is helping!
"the Church teaches, in the light of the Gospel, that “the death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person”, and she works with determination for its abolition worldwide." - CCC 2267
Pope Leo XIV sent a video message to participants gathered at DePaul University in Chicago for the 15th anniversary of Illinois' abolition of the death penalty. The Holy Father's address drew on the Church's consistent teaching that the dignity of every human person must be protected at every stage of life, including at its end.
Over 4,000 young Americans are alive today who might not be — because of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline we built together.
The grief of losing a child is something that no parent should ever have to know.
We launched 988 in 2022. We invested in it. We fought for it. And now the data is in: an 11% drop in youth suicide. Thousands of kids who picked up the phone instead of giving up.
In my view, that’s what government is supposed to do.
The Duke of Sussex began his visit to Kyiv yesterday, joining Ukrainian Government representatives, veteran leaders and the Invictus Games Foundation to focus on recovery, rehabilitation and the role of veterans in national resilience.
Discussions at the Kyiv Security Forum and with Ukrainian Invictus Games participants highlighted the importance of sport, community and shared experience in rebuilding identity, confidence and purpose after service.
This visit reinforces our shared commitment to supporting veterans not only in recovery, but as active contributors to society and future resilience, read the full story here: https://t.co/T3s1MPbMYt
Prince Harry joined The HALO Trust in #Ukraine 🇺🇦 today.
He piloted an AI-powered drone that detects and maps explosives, and operated an R-BOT, a remotely controlled vehicle used to safely remove them – innovations that enable us to return land to communities sooner.
“Nearly 30 years ago, when my mother visited Angola, deminers carried out painstaking work on their hands and knees. Today they are using drones, AI and robots,” said Prince Harry.
In 2022, the Ukrainian government estimated that an area twice the size of Austria was potentially littered with mines and explosives. Since then, HALO has made real progress, with an area roughly the size of Belgium, confirmed safe, allowing families to return home and farmers to safely work their land.

#ViaggioApostolico #GuineaEquatoriale
The Catholic University can form pioneers of a new humanism in the context of the digital revolution. This is a service to the truth and to all humanity. Without this demanding educational effort, passive adaptation to dominant paradigms will be mistaken for competence, and the loss of freedom for progress. #ApostolicJourney #Cameroon
