Belgian artist Wim Delvoye (b. 1965) continues to redefine the boundaries between high art and industrial machinery. In his celebrated “Gothic” series, Delvoye uses laser-cut steel to transform heavy-duty vehicles into intricate, lace-like cathedrals.
By applying the architectural vocabulary of 14th-century Northern Europe to a cement truck, Delvoye creates a brilliant tension between the functional and the decorative, the modern and the medieval. It’s a masterclass in technical virtuosity as a tool for cultural critique.
