bad audio can destroy a good short.
you can have the best clips and captions in the world...
but if your voiceover is hard to understand, people have another reason to swipe.
clean audio > unnecessarily loud sound effects.
make sure the viewer can actually follow the story.
your comment section is free content research.
look for:
questions people keep asking
moments viewers argue about
things people want explained
requests for another video
those comments can reveal your next 10 shorts ideas.
your audience is literally telling you what interests them.
the biggest danger with a viral shorts format:
everyone starts making it.
eventually viewers have seen the same structure 100 times.
the opportunity isn't always finding a new niche.
sometimes it's taking an existing niche and introducing a format people haven't seen yet.
a 30 second short with 24 seconds of AVD has 80% average percentage viewed.
sounds good right?
now imagine the retention graph shows everyone leaving at second 24.
you might have 6 seconds of unnecessary content.
sometimes cutting the ending is more valuable than changing the hook.
two shorts channels in the EXACT same niche can have completely different RPMs.
why?
audience geography.
a channel getting most of its engaged views from the US can monetize differently than one getting most of its traffic from lower-ad-spend countries.
check your top geographies before comparing RPMs.
your first frame on yt shorts matters more than most people realize.
before viewers even process your voiceover, they're already looking at the screen.
if the opening visual is confusing or boring, you've made the hook's job harder.
the visual hook and audio hook should work together.
A lot of creators want the lifestyle that comes from a successful YouTube business.
But they don't want the boring part:
making the videos.
Editors are going to become increasingly valuable as more creators build channels.
If you can consistently turn an idea into a good Short...
you have a skill that can be used across multiple channels, creators, and businesses.
if you run multiple youtube channels, track profit per channel.
not just revenue.
a channel making $3K/month with $2.5K in expenses...
isn't necessarily better than one making $1.5K with $300 in expenses.
revenue looks impressive.
profit pays the bills.
everyone wants shorts feed traffic.
but youtube search is underrated.
a short answering a question people repeatedly search for can keep finding viewers long after upload.
trending content captures attention NOW.
searchable content can capture demand later.
a short with 100K views and 5K shares is interesting.
a short with 100K views and 50 shares tells a different story.
shares can reveal something retention alone won't:
whether viewers thought the content was worth sending to someone else.
don't ignore them.
Discipline is a competitive advantage on YouTube.
Not because posting every day magically makes the algorithm reward you.
Because discipline lets you keep testing when the results aren't immediate.
You post.
You analyze.
You improve.
You repeat.
Most people quit before they collect enough data to figure out what they're doing wrong.
a short getting 0 views doesn't automatically mean it's bad.
check "shown in feed" first.
if youtube barely showed the video to anyone, you don't have enough data to judge the hook.
if it got thousands of feed impressions and everyone swiped...
now you have something to investigate.
distribution and performance are two different things.
getting monetized on yt shorts is only half the battle.
staying monetized is the other half.
especially with ranking and compilation content.
adding numbers and captions to reused clips doesn't automatically make the content transformative.
build originality into the format from day one.
curiosity is one of the most powerful tools in shorts.
but there's a difference between creating curiosity and confusing the viewer.
good hook:
makes you NEED to see what happens.
bad hook:
makes you wonder what the video is even about.
learn the difference.
Why Your YouTube Shorts Get Stuck In Every View Jail (Fix This)
In this video I go over how to break every single view jail on youtube shorts!
Apply all the information I give and take notes.
If you're stuck making $0โ$1K/month with Shorts...
don't automatically assume you need a completely new niche.
Ask yourself:
Do I actually have enough output to know what's working?
One channel.
A handful of uploads.
No clear winners.
That's not enough data to make a confident conclusion.
