SA continues to be the most unequal country in the world. A child's school fees (2019) in Rodean School for Girls is equivalent to 10 (families) median average annual income in Khayelitsha. It's sad reality.
@mrv_ndaa It's a sad state of affairs. Then you ask and wonder why we have so much crime in our country. It's precisely because of this inequality and Capitalist ideology that government cares less or perhaps has no clue as to what they can do about....
We live in such a grossly and scarily divided and unequal society. If one person can afford to buy a Porsche and only clock 1700kms in 3 years whilst another one does not not if they will have R20 for their next meal. It a real concern.....
I couldn't agree with you more. There is a realm that Western medicine doesn't understand. An above average practitioner recognizes and appreciates that. It essentially puts you in a completely different league and will definitely earn you a lot of respect.
It is important however to note that suicide should not be a secret and there is help available for those who are feeling overwhelmed and unable to cope with daily life demands and suicidal thoughts.
There is a lot of secrecy that often surrounds thoughts of suicide and people often feel ashamed and do not speak out when they have thoughts of harming themselves. The latter makes it difficult for people to receive timeous and effective intervention.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) the festive season records the highest number of attempted suicides worldwide. This is very concerning as it highlights problems around mental health and management of mental illness during the holidays.
It is during this time that people reflect on the year and evaluate their achievements, losses etc. With many people using this time to be with their friends and family, the festive season can be a very lonely time.
For many people, the festive season is a joyous time where one can reconnect with family and friends as well as take time to unwind and relax from a hectic year. However this time of the year can also be very challenging for some people.
@CareerAidSA I have a Master's degree in Drama Therapy with 10 years experience from working with communities in SA and from volunteering for International Organisations. I am looking for a job as a student affairs manager/counselor/program coordinator or facilitator😊
@MECKalane The sad reality is that depression affects so many of us and we are afraid to admit it. We think we will be considered to be weak, especially men... you can save a life by simply being observant.....
