[Ólú ndị Igbo @VoiceOfTheEast]

Nigerian-American basketball star Nneka Ogwumike has officially retired from the WNBA after an illustrious 15-year career.

Born in Tomball, Texas, to Nigerian parents and raised in an Igbo household, Nneka grew up alongside her three sisters, including fellow WNBA player Chiney Ogwumike. She went on to play college basketball at Stanford, where she established herself as one of the best players in the country.

In 2012, the Los Angeles Sparks selected her No. 1 overall in the WNBA Draft. She won Rookie of the Year in her first season and later became the 2016 WNBA MVP and champion with the Sparks. She spent 13 of her 15 WNBA seasons in Los Angeles, with two seasons at the Seattle Storm. She was also named an All-Star 11 times and became one of the most accomplished players in WNBA history. (WNBA)

Beyond basketball, Nneka served as president of the WNBA Players Association from 2016 and played a major role in advocating for players and the growth of women’s basketball.

After 15 seasons, Nneka announced her retirement in August, saying she felt “grateful, fulfilled, and at peace.” She played her final WNBA game on September 24, finishing with 17 points and 15 rebounds for the Sparks. (WNBA)

A remarkable career comes to an end, but the legacy of our proud Igbo daughter continues.

Our people in Sudan are being killed in droves. Sadly no one seems to care. Just because someone wants their gold.

🚨@AngieNixon SCHOOLS an Ashley Moody disruptor at a press conference:

“The Black Panther Party saw that people didn’t have access to quality healthcare. They popped up free health clinics because the government was failing to ensure that people had a safety net. They started free health clinics and that’s been replicated by organizations all across the country who are in communities when people like @AshleyMoodyFL decide to vote to end healthcare for over 440,000 people here in the state of Florida!”

In 1939, 20-year-old Jesse Lee Bond was lynched in Tennessee after asking a store for a receipt. More than eight decades later, his great-granddaughter, Kyra Harris Bolden, made history at just 34 years old as the first Black woman to serve on the Michigan Supreme Court.

Repost @LifeotSpectrum: When RJ Peete was diagnosed autistic at 3, his parents, actress Holly Robinson Peete and former NFL quarterback Rodney Peete, were told he would never hold a meaningful job.

Today RJ is a clubhouse attendant for the Los Angeles Dodgers. This is his 11th season. He organizes the lockers, packs/unloads team gear, gets the bullpen ready, does the laundry and is there for anything the players need.
“He’s great at his job, his heart is gold,” manager Dave Roberts told the Los Angeles Times. “He’s a joy to be around. We start the day with hugs,” said Freddie Freeman.

A prediction made about a 3-year-old is not a ceiling.

What were you told about your child that turned out to be wrong? 👇

He raped 3 girls, filmed choking one unconscious, and one needed surgeries for internal injuries. He got no prison time; his mother called arrest “terrible for a kid.”…….When privilege protects predators, women pay the price while the next victim waits.
