Nicolway: Statement from the centre.
We are aware of messages currently circulating on various platforms alleging that a shooting
incident and/or armed robbery took place at Winifred Mandela Precinct Shopping Centre.
We wish to clarify the following:
No armed robbery (or similar criminal incident) occurred at Winifred Mandela Precinct Shopping
Centre.
There was also no hostage held at the centre.
According to police reports, an alleged car hijacking incident took place at Parkhurst, and not at
the Winifred Mandela Precinct Shopping Centre.
During the subsequent pursuit by the South
African Police Service (SAPS), the suspect(s) entered the shopping centre area in an apparent
attempt to evade arrest.
We can confirm that one of the two suspects has been apprehended by the
police, while the other managed to escape out of the Centre.
At no stage was the shopping centre the target or location of an armed robbery. Customers,
tenants, and visitors are advised that the centre remains operational.
The Precinct has been reopened for business, and we can confirm that the centre is safe for trading.
We urge members of the public to refrain from sharing unverified information and speculation, as
this may create unnecessary concern and confusion.
Members of the public are encouraged to rely
on official communications issued by Centre Management and SAPS for accurate updates.
The safety and security of our tenants, customers, staff, and visitors remains our highest priority.
