@stevibe These kinds of demos make no sense. Why would you use ultra-cheap models like v4 flash or luna to one-shot this level of product? The point of these models is very efficiently solve tasks with limited scope, often paired with a more capable model, and acting only as a subagent.

@slugopolis I think that's what makes the flop so well-executed. He easily could've taken the challenge and probably even remained on his feet, but he instead jumps at just the right moment to let Fernandez's momentum to spin him, exaggerating the foul's impact.
We should of course use word, application, and challenge questions. But so often the quest to make math more relevant or applied to students is pure projection by adults (like so much of education).
This idea comes and goes in education, with different names ("culturally relevant teaching" is the latest). But it doesn't work:
1) Too many topics at once. Think about teaching algebra + finance vs. algebra only; algebra is hard enough to learn without more topics added.
Instead of traditional math courses like geometry and algebra, all math courses should be about investing, interest, and real-life financial situations.
Instead of teaching calculus, teach kids how to calculate how much they'd make on a stock over X years at a 9 percent annual return, including compound interest and dividends.
2) Students themselves seem to prefer pure math. My students often don't even like word problems. They like simple, abstract problems (e.g. "solve this equation") or routine, mechanistic problems. I have to convince them that financial applications are interesting/important.
