@JC200022 There are no quick fixes, but decoupling the women & girls game from provincial competition structures reducing travel barriers is one. The knoc on (pardon the pun!) is allowing the pockets of excellence, that cross provincial boundaries to thrive. If you build it they will come
@JC200022 Time commitment and cost for travel? Lack of national competitions for the true competitors? Access to rugby in schools? All of the above? Solutions?
@JC200022 The women’s game is not well served by the provincial model. We need to be creative in nurturing the clubs that are committed to women’s rugby & ensure that the player pathway is sustainable and progressive
🇮🇪 In a great honour for the club, Lucy Mulhall, Captain of the Irish Women’s 7s Rugby team will visit the club Wed 10th April at 7pm 🏉
This visit is part of the Dare to Believe pre-Olympic campaign and is aimed at inspiring youth girls and women to “Dare to Believe” 🐿️
Lots of commentary on 30 of the squad based in Dublin, 1 in Galway, 2 in Limerick & 10 overseas
I’ve been doing this longer & been deeper in the weeds of Irish women’s rugby, athletes, clubs, provinces & IRFU than most
It’s more nuanced than ‘IRFU don’t pick outside Dublin’
🧵
@IrishWomens Especially at the entry level where other sports organise competitions at a county level. Current structures are not serving the women’s game well.
@IrishWomens his type of situation is endemic from development leagues upwards. Reasons are different, but fundamentally not helping development of the game. We make participation in women’s rugby at all levels inordinately difficult.

"I feel like I let them down as well! Because we didn't get to that World Cup! We didn't give them that two months!"
@SeneNaoupu full of passion on what Ireland are lacking in terms of governance, leadership, competitions, coaching, commercial & development.
