The truth is that Stan Lee, the “lowly” comic book artist, had a deeper understanding of myth & religion in his pinky than all the DR neopagans & Christians combined. Once asked if Joseph Campbell influenced him, he seemed to scoff, implying Campbell had nothing useful to offer.
@Aelthemplaer Where does Tacitus equate Jupiter with Yahweh? If anything, this excerpt and the rest of Histories Book V suggest a Jewish kinship with Saturn instead.
Also, Jupiter and Yahweh come from entirely separate language trees. Assuming a common root based on pronunciation is sloppy.
@LRH_Superfan Blank iambic pentameter would be a good fit; it could have been the mirror image of Milton. The Apotheosis of Washington was painted in 1865, so we probably would’ve had the appetite through the 19th century.
My advice to “save Star Wars.” Make “The Darth Bane trilogy,” followed by an adaption of Luceno’s “Darth Plagueis.” There’s no way to go forward. So go backward! And go dark!
@seethroughit2 Who are you talking about? I have never seen an Apollonian make such a statement.
The critique of Odin comes from the idea that he is a Hermes cognate, Hermes himself representing a mischling-type. You can argue with this, but your assertion that we push Christianity is absurd.
In this clip, Prof. Candida Moss explains early Christians were not under constant persecution. Some were killed, often for breaking laws rather than belief.
The “martyr” idea is messy, and the persecution narrative is exaggerated and still used politically today. Many cases resemble the ancient version of suicide by cop.
Christianity cannot defend countries:
Egypt — Center of early Christianity (Coptic Church); became majority Muslim by around the 10th–14th centuries (now ~90–95% Muslim).
• Syria — Predominantly Christian under Byzantine rule; became majority Muslim over centuries (now ~70–90% Muslim, depending on pre/post-civil war estimates).
• Lebanon — Historically majority Christian (Maronite stronghold); shifted to Muslim majority in the 20th century due to demographics and emigration (now roughly balanced or Muslim-plurality).
• Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Morocco — Strong Christian communities in Roman/Byzantine North Africa; became overwhelmingly Muslim after Arab conquests (now >97–99% Muslim in each).
• Turkey (Anatolia) — Heart of Byzantine Christianity; became majority Muslim under Ottoman rule (now ~99% Muslim).
• Iraq — Early Christian center (Assyrian/Chaldean); became majority Muslim centuries ago (now majority Shia Muslim).
This is so silly.
Your “Old Testament” is their bible.
Stop all this nonsense about them being Canaanites who “don’t worship Jehovah”.
יהוה (YHVH) is the letters in Hebrew that your Bible is translated from.
They worship יהוה and you worship translations and transliterations in other languages of that name lol
You are a knock off brand.
You were “grafted in” to them.
You are playing their game and losing badly.
Also this “Star of Remphan” nonsense is stupid because you can literally just apply that star to Jesus’ birth star and it’s just as credible or nonsensical as applying to the Star of David which they claim is from Numbers 24:17.
Citing Jesus from the gospels against Jews is just as question-begging as a Muslim citing the Quran against Christians or Mormons citing Joseph Smith against Catholics.
Nobody cares.
@pontiusdickus @SawelSurfer I love Nietzsche. He’s a great inspiration, but that doesn’t make him infallible.
I’m saying that Yahweh and Jesus were both heavily based on Bacchus because he was always a Semitic figure. Similarly, Bacchus himself was based on the Sumerian Dumuzid.
