🧵The number of humanities dissertations produced annually has declined by almost half, according to a new analysis.
The same report shows that language related to power and identity surged while treatments of “Western,” “European,” and “American” turned increasingly negative.
How bad is administrative bloat in higher ed?
At MIT, the “student body has grown by 8% and its faculty by 9% since the mid-1980s. By comparison, the tally of administrators jumped by 189%.”
@arctotherium42 Indeed. Take for instance the so-called ‘Aryan invasion’ hypothesis of Indian history deduced by Brits, which became a totem of post-60s scorn for traditional scholarship. It has now been conclusively proven by archeology and genetic science, but the stigma persists.
@policytensor@okuehschelm The problem with Said is not so much his thesis (e.g. that Oriental societies varied over time) but its bastardisation. His work has become memetic in the sense that the people citing it haven’t read it, and his position is transmuted into “West projects, West bad”.
@timothycbates@cremieuxrecueil@Russwarne@Hitchslap1 The failing of the Minnesota study is that it doesn’t differentiate by Asian or Pacific Island origin. Testing the adoptive parents would add another important dimension.
@timothycbates@cremieuxrecueil@Russwarne@Hitchslap1 It wouldn’t be possible to conduct online, but a longitudinal study of cross-racial adoptees that clearly demarcates subject ethnicity would be very useful. Ideally it would also measure adoptive parents’ g-IQ, which I suspect is higher than the population baseline.
@mydorazio@cremieuxrecueil You’re describing my exact experience. Honestly, I’m not sure how to process this finding because I’m certain I would have intuited the correct answer even as a child.
@robkhenderson That’s true, but they also began unshuttering the churches and wrote songs with titles like Sacred War. An embassy’s English-language tweets are not really indicative of what the Iranian regime is telling its domestic audience.
High schoolers aren't good survey respondents. They think it's funny to self-report that they're trans.
This makes estimating trans percentages very difficult.
Students who self-report being trans also often report being blind, deaf, armed, obese, 7-foot crackheads in gangs.
It's crazy to me that we are just straight-up never getting America's full 2025 PISA data because leftist bureaucrats don't want people to break down the scores by race.
