When Biafra was under blockade (1967–1970), millions of civilians faced starvation. Through organizations such as Caritas and the Holy Ghost Fathers, together with priests, religious sisters, pilots, doctors, and humanitarian volunteers from different countries, the Catholic Church organized one of history’s largest humanitarian airlifts. Night after night, they flew food, medicine, and relief supplies into besieged Biafra, knowing they could be shot down. Some paid with their lives.

Those flights saved countless Igbo men, women, and children from starvation. Many families alive today—including Catholics and non-Catholics alike—owe their existence to those extraordinary humanitarian efforts of the Catholic Church.

History deserves honesty and gratitude. Whatever our denomination or political views, every Igbo person should acknowledge the immense sacrifice the Catholic Church made for our people during those dark years. We may disagree with the Catholic Church on different issues today, but we should never erase or diminish what it did when our people faced one of the deadliest genocide in the world.

Gratitude is not weakness. It is respect for those who risked everything so that others could live and be free.

I just learned this morning that Bryan Eze qualified for the International Economics Olympiad in China to represent Nigeria, but the Ministry of Education said that there is no money to sponsor him.

They approached the Ebonyi State Government for support and the government said that they are not interested. So he missed it.

I became curious after he won the Sterling Bank National Online Maths Quiz yesterday.

This is heartbreaking.

Muhammad said that every Muslim, including himself, is possessed by a demon. This explains why Muslims act against humanity, standing against everything good. They are quick to side with evil and backwardness. Instead of expecting Muslims to make the right decision, wake up at 3:00 a.m. and begin to kabash against the demon of Islam. Islam is highly diabolical; they commune with demons (jinns). Their Kaaba is a product of paganism. Most Muslims who look good and reasonable do not know the Quran, but those who are devout and read the Quran become radical and evil. Islam and Christianity can never unite. Light and darkness can never unite. Instead of talking sense to Muslims, pray for them and against the demon that controls them, because what controls Muslims is not ordinary; they are all controlled by demons.

Love is love. Not all men are built the same; some are protectors while others need protection. Some men shield while others need a shielding. Men who need protection and shielding usually choose older, more mature or more influential women. Understand this about marriage: nobody asked you to give birth to a son who needs these things, so you have no right to judge his choices. Marriage is not a simplistic adventure.

The way Anambra people practise tribalism—especially in marriage, friendships and business—is utterly disgusting. An Anambra man will hardly give a contract to anyone who is not from Anambra, even another Igbo person from a different state.

It's not even like Anambra is indispensable. For example, Imo and Abia—the oil and gas giants of the South East—do not need Anambra for anything. They are rich, yet they lack this tribalistic mindset. An Imo or Abia person can marry from any of the five southeastern states, or even from Akwa Ibom, Rivers or Delta, without segregation. They are progressive, and God blesses progressive people.

Anambra’s tribalism and bad character is giving Igboland a bad face. This is mainly why many Igbos outside the Southeast, such as the Ikwerre and others in Rivers State, refuse to identify as Igbo.

Anambra people, take it easy. The bad face you are giving Igboland is too much. Look at the news trending across Nigeria: Anambra racism and tribalism, all because Peter Okoye married Lola, a Yoruba woman. Was Lola not a good wife? Does she not take care of Peter, protect him, connect him and stand by him? When Peter needed ₦30 million, Lola helped him secure the loan. She is wife material. Why crucify her simply because she is Yoruba?

How can you be so primitive in this modern century? What has Lola done to you? I am an Igbo person who has received genuine help from good Yoruba people—more than once. There are good Yoruba people who are not evil.

This tribalism must stop. Anambra people, stop carrying it on your heads. You are giving Igboland a bad face. Please stop.

All I see is an Igbo woman using Yoruba wisdom to escape unnecessary persecution from the Iyaloja of her marketplace. There is no wisdom in telling your host on camera that you will not support their candidate. When it is time to vote, she will vote her choice. Imagine you are in the land of people who have a particular candidate and you come out on camera to say you will not support their candidate. What do you think they are going to do to you? Do you think they will be happy with you? Of course they will persecute you.

So all I see is this woman using her wisdom—Yoruba wisdom—to escape unnecessary attention and persecution. I bet that if this interview was conducted in Imo State, or if she lived there, she would definitely say she supports Peter Obi, because she knows the people around her also support him and nobody would persecute her for her choice.

Every reasonable Nigerian knows that Peter Obi is the right candidate for the job. Everybody knows that the Westerners, especially in Lagos, bully people into submission, and this woman does not want that kind of bullying. That is why she is just saying on the surface that she supports Tinubu.

While I acknowledge the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad for apprehending these hoodlums causing problems along the Lekki-Ajah Expressway, an act I term cosmetic problem-solving, I emphasise that the Lagos State Government should address such issues from the root.

Alongside Rivers, Edo, Anambra and Delta States, Lagos has the highest degree of hoodlum activities touting and extortion of people, motorists and celebrities. Why are these prevalent in Lagos? The government has invested heavily in infrastructure, industries and other development. Yet it should prioritise human capital development. When development has not fully impacted ordinary Nigerian citizens in Lagos, what is its essence? Is it for foreigners and Caucasian investors, or for true Nigerians who should be the direct beneficiaries?

Lagos State Government, eradicate poverty, provide quality education and increase the purchasing power of Lagosians. When purchasing power rises, fewer will resort to touting or hoodlum activities. Poverty and lack of education are the main causes. Arresting them is not the ultimate solution, as the root cause remains untackled. It is like a malaria patient taking only paracetamol to suppress symptoms without treating the disease. Let us tackle the root, not just the cosmetic aspect.

In need of some ideas on this? I can contribute to that effect.

I see many people commenting on social media about Anambra's marriage preferences and how it affects their marriage choices, but here's my take:

I don't have any problem with Anambra people's marriage preferences. Many Anambra people prefer to marry within Anambra rather than from other Igbo states or ethnic groups. That is their socio-cultural choice, and I do not judge them. There may be historical reasons for this, such as preserving the culture, circulating wealth among themselves, maintaining unity, or avoiding outsiders who could cause problems or dilute their cohesiveness.

Marriage preferences cannot be forced through emotional appeals. If you know Anambra people hold these cultural views on marriage yet still mingle with them expecting them to change for you, you must face the consequences, including any discrimination that follows.

Nigeria is multi-ethnic and multicultural. To coexist, we must tolerate and respect one another's cultural preferences. We should respect each other's boundaries, cultures, and marital preferences. Doing so will help build a nation that honors the traditions of all.

Anambra people who follow this practice have pros, but also cons, such as possible retaliation. Even so, while holding cultural preferences, we should make some adjustments to maintain inclusiveness with our neighbours.

Well, the last time I checked, your people were the ones complaining that you cannot compete with Igbos in business in Igboland. If we were as backward as you claim, your people would have dominated us in our business fairs and led the way while Igbos followed. But the reverse is true: Igbos dominate your businesses and real estate in your land. There is nothing you can do about it because we come from two different civilizations—one that encourages hard work, progress and success, and another that encourages mediocrity, servitude and laziness.

Terrorism means different things to different people, and he who plays the pipe dictates the tune. Regarding IPOB, the government decides who is labelled a terrorist. Nnamdi Kanu sought secession for Biafrans from Nigeria, just as Sunday Igboho sought it for Yorubas. Yet Igboho is treated as a national celebrity with a security outfit the government does not oppose, while Kanu and his outfit were termed terrorists. This confirms that he who plays the pipe dictates the tune.

Discuss with intelligence. When speaking with an enlightened Igbo like me, bring your brain to the table so we can converse as intelligent adults. From your words, I doubt you have the intelligence for a discussion with someone of my calibre. Your choice of language is sickening and uninteresting, so I will stop responding. Notwithstanding, based on our conversation so far, I can confidently conclude that you are beneath me.

It is your choice to categorize Igbos in your land however you want. It’s your society, and your world. But the truth remains that Igbos don’t care what you think of them. They have their own land, and civilization. To the best of my knowledge, the excesses these foreigners exhibit in Lagos cannot be tried in Alaigbo because they have governors who put Igbos first and are intentional about improving their people’s livelihoods. So if you decide to allow these foreigners to mistreat Nigerians, including your own people, just because Igbos working in your land are also affected, that is fine. It is your decision and your land. But the truth remains that Igbos have structured their land so this madness will not thrive there. And I think that is worth acknowledging.

Development is not just skyscrapers, flyovers, roads and beautiful skylines while ordinary Nigerians lose purchasing power and only a few Nigerians and thousands of foreigners can afford the real estate.

That is not development!

True development is about policies that improve the lives of ordinary people, increase purchasing power, expand access to quality education and create opportunities for young people.

Look at these young men. They are supposed to be the leaders of tomorrow, yet years of poor governance and economic hardship have pushed many into a life of street hustling, touting, extortion and crime. These are the same people who sleep under bridges, vandalise infrastructure for scraps, disrupt traffic, extort motorists and sometimes cause violence during elections.

And the problem is spreading.

We are now seeing touting and street disorder becoming more visible beyond Lagos, including Abuja. If Nigerians continue to ignore the root causes, this problem will spread further across the country.

I strongly appeal to the governors of the Eastern states: do everything possible to prevent this from becoming normal in the East. Invest in education. Promote entrepreneurship. Create jobs. Increase the purchasing power of your people. Give young Nigerians alternatives to street crime and touting.

We don’t need touts in the East!

We need a civilized environment where our children are educated, exposed to opportunities and equipped to compete positively with people from anywhere in the world.

Yes, Lagos has skyscrapers, bridges, flyovers and impressive infrastructure. But development must be measured by more than what appears on the skyline.

Can ordinary people afford decent housing?
Can they access quality education?
Can they find decent jobs?
Can they afford basic necessities?
Are the streets safe and properly maintained?

Don’t judge a book by its cover.

Come into the system. Live among the people. Then you will understand that the reality of Lagos goes far beyond its beautiful skyline.

Development must improve the quality of life—not merely the appearance of a city.
