@DeanGagaKennedy I thought Obsession was good as I understood the subtext of what was happening
But for the most part, yeah. I expected Obsession to be a shitty slasher just as most of everything else at this point. Few I manage to feel dread watching
@Rock_Punchgroin@noggin_chomper That isn't to say four is bad, no
It's one of the greatest games of all time
But it also made it impossible to follow up
@Rock_Punchgroin@noggin_chomper In case it wasn't obvious
Four was a massive change up to the previous titles, and with the success of four the following two titles would try and capture a similar magic and fail to do so
Five arguably more so for the co-op. Six because it was all just action
@DotterzReloaded Those themes are the world itself is the problem. Especially when we're talking about the Raccoon City incident or else it just becomes a name that could've been anything else
Instead, it's an allegory about the anxiety of becoming a father, which is a little removed as it were
@DotterzReloaded You could say b movie cheese too, but later entries play less and less into those science fiction tropes. Parallels are mostly incidental to horror based psychology and symbolism... for the most part
@DotterzReloaded Primarily themes of corporate exploitation, the development of world changing weapons in atomic bomb allegory, the pursuit of eugenics in the name of transcending humanity even at the cost of millions of lives, or some combination of those things
@DreddSnail >people list off the fps titles
>mysteriously, the first three main line titles
>all of the Raccoon City titles prior to four that are listed are light gun games
???
@LothWolffe OR YOU GET THE OPPOSITE EFFECT WHERE PEOPLE GLAZE THEIR EYES OVER FOR THE WORLD BUILDING, just to miss that the story was always more of the focus and the world building was only a backdrop to that a la The Amazing Digital Circus
...there's no winning
