@DrCasteelEM If looking at “end points” I would agree with you; however, at start of residency there can be a significant gap. In general a strong student at a weak school will do fine, a weak student at a strong school will do fine, but a weak student at a weak school can be trouble.
@drdamoeyes Some research protocols require certain equipment be used. Not uncommon for PEDIG studies in pediatric ophthalmology to have standard equipment requirements. I believe the DRS studies also used standardized equipment across study centers.
@CherieEyeMD @jbcarmody I am of the belief that they could be well taught pediatric eye surgery over a 3 year period. Ophthalmology residency is only 39 months and these folks would be ahead of the game from a medical knowledge standpoint.
@eeyanmiller If you are doing the right thing for a patient I will defend you ‘til the end. As a resident these were powerful words to hear, knowing that if I accidentally upset someone in the name of doing the right thing for a patient leadership would have my back.
@fuzzymittens Chief resident in Medicine and Pediatrics is different than that in others. Those who are actually graduates who stay on and serve as Chief Resident as a staff should absolutely include that on their CV. If you are a “Chief” simply by being in your last year then hard pass.
The @DeptofDefense Vision Research Program released the 2023 program announcements.
The program supports impactful military-relevant vision research (@NatEyeInstitute has great collaborations with them!). @CDMRP

The power of @Photoshop is insane. This new “generative fill” is going to be great for some things, but scary at how easy a complete transformation of a captured image has become.
The all new Generative Fill in @Photoshop changes everything! Remove complex objects, add/replace elements, seamlessly extend your images, and more. #AdobeFirefly
@dr_cellini@Jmarksloan Much of this confusion stems from what “chief resident” means. In surgery, Rads, anesthesia, etc this is just a senior resident. In IM, Peds, etc this is actually the “Chief of Residents” and is actually a staff position for a graduated resident.
@seanhussey20@DoD_DHA @ArmyMedicine @NavyMedicine@USAFMedicine I would agree except when it comes to personnel systems, understanding the other missions that hospital supports (EMF, TAH, etc) and the culture of Service. I’ve had too many friends have issues at commands with a non-Navy CO.
@VipsMDMEd I try to call except it is nearly impossible sometimes. No primary team contact info in the chart, the intern that pages to their personal pager is now off bc they were the admitting team, and the attending in the chart went off service 2 weeks ago 😁.
@DrTraceyK@DrElsterUSUSoM USU is probably one of the few things keeping some National faculty holding out the good fight. AD positions, FacDev, research opportunities, and teaching our future colleagues are all so helpful!
