@jessesingal As with many things journalism, it's practiced differently in different settings, with each group thinking their is "how it's done." I've been in settings where the understanding was that everything was off the record until they made their official statement
@phillydrilz I think that in these conversations, people are more confused about when the dribble ends than by the gather step (they watch from the last bounce of the ball, rather than the second hand coming to the ball). But either way you're right.
@kevinmdraper Both of his recent semi-viral stories are him acting dumb and then writing about it. He's legitimately skilled as a writer, so they are engaging. But it becomes less so once you hold them next to each other an notice the pattern.
@jonahe__11@Jeremy_Ba11@danorlovsky7 The time out has to be called before the Kentucky player has it out of bounds. Not before the ball is in play. I agree that he gets the call just before the Kentucky player steps out. But his delay in making the call makes this really close.
@AndrewDBailey How many of the variables in the HNI contain reliable measures of defensive value (because I suspect it's zero) and would an informed opinion of his defensive value help or hurt Hali's top 10 case?
@bballbreakdown I think you’re right about the rule/call. But antagonizing people by not acknowledging that her first three steps take her toward the left side of the backboard, and then she veers into the path of the defender (and yes, toward the rim). People hate this rule.
@tomhaberstroh@YahooSports Why not make the chart with TS%? Drawing a shooting foul is also worthwhile in late/close moments. (You’d probably reach the same/similar conclusions, so I’m not arguing with the results)
@realManiAiyer@MarzTalksSports@ppemployee The best answer is that the NBA had a shortened offseason prior to 2021 because of COVID. Without proper rest/recovery, a bunch of stars got injured.
@NathanCHubbard@benthompson Embiid’s not better (once you account for durability) than Giannis. But the Sixers did more wasting, if that makes sense.
Also, I think Jokic and Giannis are similarly talented and similarly wasted.
@AndrewDBailey I wish we had a stat that averaged the offensive components of EPM, BPM, and LEBRON and then assigns a defensive value between +3 and -3 based on scouting. The creators of EPM and BPM have both indicated that they aren't as accurate on that side of the ball.
