Ok, #TravelTribe, help me out: where is a good place in Europe with nice scenery to spend a week in mid-July that will be neither too hot nor too crowded? Preferably insect free, so that probably rules out Scotland
Eighteenth century aristos on the grand tour must have endured quite a lot of toil and discomfort simply to get to their destinations, but is that so different from twenty-first century travellers having to endure the slog of earning the funds to travel?

@YourTrvlHndbk@coupledaytravel On 2nd thoughts, our 3 night trip to Venice, in September last year in the brief window between waves of the pandemic, was even more expensive. But then having had so many other trips cancelled and refunded, we had cash to burn and we did it in style
@YourTrvlHndbk@coupledaytravel Taking the cost of the flights into account, but not the number of nights spent on aircraft, the 17 nights we had on our trip from the UK to New Zealand, with a stopover in Hong Kong on the way back, must have set us back over £1000 per day, and that was nearly 7 years ago
@2WeekTraveller@TheFearlessFor1 You had the right location for the weather this weekend! North of the Clyde, it wasn’t so good. This is what it was like on Loch Fyne yesterday as we journeyed from Fort William to Glasgow Airport
@TheFearlessFor1 Very sensible! I don’t think I have had to block anyone on this account, but on my primary Twitter account, where I post under my real name, I have a policy of blocking pre-emptively: the self-righteous, particularly.
