Blue Babe is a mummified steppe bison from 50,000 years ago, found by gold miners in 1979 near Fairbanks, Alaska. The animal was taken down by a North American lion, a now-extinct giant cat 25% bigger than today's lions. Claw and tooth marks reveal the lion ate much of the bison's rib and upper limb muscles before the body froze, preserving it from further scavenging.
