Nobody ever was obligated to subject themselves to participating in the Federal Old Age Pension Act, Social Security, despite your belief that it is mandatory. Al it is mandatorynon those who chose to participate. At a time, you started participating. In the second before that, you had not yet obligated yourself to participating. I did not indicate that the "average worker can do this'" despite that every single Taxpayer can and thousands have done it (properly severed ties to IRS taxing authority). Like I said, you are getting what you asked for. IRS is a service which you subscribe to. The name gives you a clue about that, the I. R. Service. You are being served the service you ask for. No need to complain. Lincoln outlawed INVOLUNTARY servitude but VOLUNTARY servitude is more prevalent than ever and, apparently, you choose to be up to your neck in the voluntary servitude participation. I keep every cent of my gross earnings. IRS knows it and makes no contact with me because doing so is prohibited. You simply do not understand your rights. One of your rights is that you may and do subjugate your property to the dominion of the IRS and that does not create an obligation in me to do the same.

Updownstonks, i paid FICA and Personal Income tax from age 16 to 19 and never again despite working and being paid throughout the intervening 48 years. Both SS admin and IRS are aware of the foregoing and are powerless to act against me. Believe whatever you care to but understand that your beliefs do not alter reality.

Darlene, who said you can opt out? I explained why you cannot opt out. I also indicated that you are not obligated to continue to pay. No longer paying is not "opting out". You would do well to lose the "opt out" concept. Book entries are on the records of the SSA and tagged with the SSN which is assigned to you. The account ( book entries) exist and are the property of the United States, not your property. The SSN assigned to your name is the property of the United States of America, not solely your property though you do have particular use privileges relative to it. You are free to use the number for any purpose for which it may be used. You can even use the number as a Taxpayer Identification Number but then it is not used as a Social Security number despite it being numerically identical. You can also use your telephone number as a pass code or a lock combination though when used in the latter ways, you are not using it as a telephone number.
