Why and how should parents talk to kids about race? A (long) thread. First, and importantly: Kids see race even if you don't think they do. Research has shown that 3-month-olds can discern racial differences, and that racial awareness & prejudice develop in the preschool years.

A 1967 poll reflected that he was one of the most hated men in America.
Most hated.
Many who evoke him today to deter justice would have likely hated him then.

There are currently more than 50 MILLION K-12 students in the U.S. Yet, there was barely any mention regarding schools in the Presidential and VP debates.

Eleanor Duckworth: The more intensely interested a teacher is in a student’s thinking, the more interested the student becomes in his or her own thinking.
Corollary: The more a teacher just wants to see right answers, the less interested students become in their (or any) thinking
@angiecthomas Especially because it helps children comprehend themselves, their world, and how to treat others with dignity and grace. Reading has the power to spark the courage within us to tell our own stories, unapologetically and unafraid. Storytelling is the most human thing we can do.
