A guaranteed quality starter isn’t guaranteed no matter where you are in the first round. Hunter has a path to being more than that, which makes him worth the trade in general.

The only real pathway for trading pick 5, 36, a 4th rounder, and a future first to go up to 2 and select Hunter turning out to be a good deal is if he was made a significant impact as a 2 way player, which was always pretty unlikely.

The Jags helped their value case by winning a lot of games in 2025 and driving down the value of the 2026 1st they traded, but it’s still hard to see it as anything other than a massive overpay.

That said, At least they are course corrections and focusing on using him defensively, which is what I always thought was the best approach.
