Over time it will get substantially more expensive to mine Bitcoin because energy prices are rising and there’s also environmental and regulatory compliance that increases mining costs. All of this happening into a halving of supply in a couple months.
If you follow the precious metals and gems industry, you’ll understand how critical mining economics are to asset price. Even a tiny supply shock can moon markets. Like a strike at a large mine for instance.
The difference here is you have a massive supply shock. Rewards literally cut in half overnight. That isn’t even fathomable with a tradional in demand asset class. This is then couoled with other constant supply constraints. Price economics are clearly favorable.
As grade 10 economics teaches, supply is only half of the equation. There’s the demand factor. And unlike precious metals and gems, Bitcoin has no competition. It has no insiders. No special interests. No venture capital investors. It doesn’t care about your feelings. Has no execution risk. It can’t be cancelled. It’s an undisputed legitimate commodity.
Not to say alts aren’t interesting, because they are. But only as a way to level up your Bitcoin stack if you really understand and appreciate crypto. Bitcoin stands alone in this regard. Anecdotally, that’s the sentiment of most people I talk to in this space. They’re out there grinding claims and shilling memes and what not but only as a way to get cash to ultimately have a nice Bitcoin bag.
There’s also a long term secular demand trend towards Bitcoin ownership. It may be overshadowed on ct by the hype of “faster and easier money” here but every day we hear about a new mega rich person that feels like they need some Bitcoin.
This will only intensify. And the ETFs provide a steady stream of demand. The whole 1% of wealth should be in gold was thought of as preposterous only 20 years ago, but now its part of the boilerplate playbook of every financial advisor.
Sometimes the most obvious bet is the best bet. I’m pretty sure this is the case here. I can’t model any scenerio where Bitcoin price doesn’t move up significantly in the next few years. It’s just simple supply and demand. Just a matter of time before this rocket takes off and leaves a trail of shitcoins in its dust.
