I'm an old guy who was raised on games since forever due to both of my parents being gaming enthusiasts as well.

We've had years of hard, male characters to identify with and we continue to get those. It's awesome when you can identify with a character and as a kid, I often identified or fantasized about being the characters I played.

Now, imagine you are someone that is from a marginalized community. They haven't had much representation for YEARS - because more often than not it was straight, white male protagonists only.

I could actually give two shits if I can't relate to certain game characters anymore because being more inclusive and letting others, who have been misrepresented or have had a lack of representation for far too long, now have the opportunity to play in their own fantasy is much more important to me. I want others, who may be much different than me, to be impacted by games in the same way I was.

Character designs that promote inclusivity are a net benefit for the gaming community.
