Three generations. One legacy of service 🤍
Ronan travelled from Canada to volunteer here, following in the footsteps of his grandfather and uncle.
From the blood bank to counselling services, his journey has been one of growth, learning, and giving back. And even as he returns home, his connection to Mengo continues.
We’re grateful for you, Ronan.
Safe travels, and see you again soon.

In his remarks, the Chief Guest, Rev. Prof. John Kitayimbwa offered a compelling reflection on Mengo Hospital’s long-standing tradition of research excellence, beginning with Dr. Albert Cook’s pioneering work in documenting disease patterns, maternal outcomes, and community health trends. This historical foundation, he said, should inspire a renewed commitment to cultivating a strong research culture today.
He emphasized that research is not confined to laboratories or formal studies; it is a way of thinking and working—rooted in curiosity, careful documentation, and the willingness to question and improve. Sharing a personal account of treating his child’s allergies with local greens after deliberate observation and inquiry, he illustrated how research emerges from everyday experiences.
He encouraged staff to adopt this investigative posture, viewing themselves as clinician-detectives who gather evidence, record insights, and use them to enhance patient care and strengthen Mengo’s institutional legacy.
