The Frontier Counties Development Council (@FCDCKenya ), through the @RANGEprogramme and in collaboration with the Regional Pastoralists Peace Link (@RPPL006) and other peacebuilding partners, convened an Inter-County Youth Peace Dialogue and 32-kilometre Peace Ultra-Marathon.

Supported by the @NLinKenya , the initiative brought together more than 200 participants from Isiolo, Samburu and Marsabit counties. Participants included Morans, youths, elders, women and religious leaders, national and county government officials, security agencies, community peace structures, civil society organisations and development partners.

Through dialogue, sports, cultural performances and testimonies from reformed Morans, participants reflected on the effects of cattle rustling, retaliatory attacks, drug abuse, youth unemployment and competition over pasture and water. The forum underscored the need to position young people as leaders and active partners in preventing conflict, strengthening early warning systems and promoting peaceful coexistence.

The meeting agreed on the following key action points and priorities:

1. Youth representatives will conduct community peace and sensitisation forums in their respective areas.
2. Cross-county youth communication networks will be established and strengthened to support timely information-sharing
3. Communities, local administrators and security agencies will strengthen early warning and early response mechanisms.
4. Stakeholders will advocate for the establishment of a police station in the Kipsing/Mlango area to improve security in identified hotspots.
5. County governments and partners will expand vocational training, entrepreneurship and alternative livelihood opportunities for young people.
6. Communities will promote peaceful sharing and management of pasture, water and other natural resources.
7. Stakeholders will support the implementation of the Sabarwawa Protocol and county peace action plans.
8. Progress on the agreed commitments will be regularly monitored and reviewed.

The initiative demonstrated that peacebuilding must go hand in hand with youth empowerment, responsive security systems, sustainable natural resource management and inclusive development. FCDC and its partners remain committed to supporting locally led solutions that transform conflict-affected pastoral corridors into peaceful, resilient and economically vibrant communities.
