This is simple, really. He's giving you the power to choose to engage. If you engage, you're interested, if you don't, no one is pestering you when you know you're not interested. W-W, really.
Lions don't live in jungles. They never have.
African lions live in dry grasslands and scrub. They hunt antelope under open sky, on flat ground. The 891 Asiatic lions left in the world live in Gujarat, in dry forest and scrubland that no one would call a jungle.
The phrase "king of the jungle" comes from the Hindi word "jangal," which once meant any wild, empty land that humans hadn't built on. When the word jumped into English, the meaning narrowed to "rainforest." But the title kept following the wrong cat.
Tigers live in actual jungles. Bengal tigers in the mangrove swamps where India meets Bangladesh. Sumatran tigers in Indonesian rainforest. Siberian tigers in the freezing forests of eastern Russia, where winter temperatures drop below minus forty. Find a real jungle and you might find a tiger. You will not find a lion.
Tigers are also bigger. A grown male Siberian tiger weighs around 600 pounds, heavier than four adult humans put together. A male African lion weighs 330 to 500. The biggest wild tiger ever recorded weighed 857 pounds, shot in northern India in 1967. The biggest wild lion ever recorded weighed 690 pounds, shot in South Africa in 1936. The tiger has a stronger bite, longer fangs, and a paw swipe powerful enough to kill prey in a single swing.
The Romans tested this matchup directly. They opened the Colosseum in the year 80 AD and one of the things they did for entertainment was throw a lion and a tiger in the ring and bet on which one walked out alive. The poet Martial wrote about a tigress killing a male lion in front of the crowd. Most surviving accounts and modern historians say the tiger usually won.
The lion's whole reputation is cultural. Lions live in groups, with the male sitting in the middle while the females hunt for him, and to anyone watching that looked like a kingdom. The mane sits on the head like a crown. And the lion's roar carries five miles across open plains, where European explorers in the 1800s heard it from a long way off and built a whole mythology around the cat making the noise. They never went into the jungle to meet the tiger.
The tiger has been sitting alone in the actual jungle the whole time, heavier and stronger, ignored by the title. India figured this out in 1972 and dropped the lion as its national animal in favor of the Bengal tiger, mostly because the tiger lives across most of the country and the lion lives in just one state. The Romans had worked it out 1,900 years earlier.
They're no single dads in the African community. Single dads get help from grandmothers, aunties and every living female relative or friends. Single mothers get to do it on their own .
We have become too articulate about our suffering & too inarticulate about our strength. The more elegantly we describe our wounds, the harder it becomes to leave them behind. When a struggle becomes part of your identity, overcoming it feels like a betrayal of who you are.
As someone who deals with college students often, the younger generation are digital..but not computer literate.
People forget that unless you actively learn how to use things like Excel, you just won't know anything about it despite owning a laptop
