Bro to Bro:
As the body ages, many things change. This is why at 30 you cannot run exactly the same way you did at 20. That is why most footballers reach their physical peak in their 20s and begin to decline athletically in their 30s. It is simply nature. The same principle applies to sexual performance. To expect to hit 5 rounds in one go at 30 like the way you did at 20 is unrealistic. And if you start to use pills to perform like a 20 year old, you will mess up your health. However, contrary to what many people believe, a healthy man should not automatically develop erectile dysfunction in his thirties or forties. Sexual function does not suddenly disappear with age, it simply changes as the body changes. Healthy men remain sexually active and perform well into old age.
If you are experiencing erectile dysfunction, there may be an underlying cause that needs attention. Before rushing for medications such as the blue pill, it is worth looking at your lifestyle first. In many cases, erectile dysfunction is a symptom of something else rather than a disease on its own.
1. If you drink excessively, it is time to cut back. Excessive alcohol consumption can affect erections and reduce testosterone levels.
2. If you have gained significant weight, especially around the abdomen, it is time to lose it. Obesity is strongly associated with erectile dysfunction and cardiovascular disease.
3. If you live a sedentary lifestyle, start exercising. Regular physical activity improves blood circulation, heart health, hormone balance and sexual function.
4. If you are not getting enough sleep, prioritise it. Most adults should aim for about 7 to 9 hours of quality sleep every night. Poor sleep affects testosterone levels, energy and sexual performance.
5. If your diet has deteriorated, fix it. Reduce highly processed foods, sugary drinks and excessive fast food. Eat more vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, fish and lean proteins. Healthy fats from foods such as avocados, groundnuts help. Drink enough water and limit excessive sugar intake.
6. Manage stress and anxiety. Mental health plays a major role in sexual performance. Chronic stress can affect libido, erections and overall wellbeing.
7. Get screened for medical conditions. Erectile dysfunction can sometimes be a warning sign of hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol or hormonal problems. It is important to know your blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
8. Practise sexual responsibility. Get tested for sexually transmitted infections when necessary and take care of your sexual health.
9. Avoid excessive pornography consumption if it is affecting your relationships, expectations or sexual function.
These lifestyle changes improve not only sexual health but overall health. Medications such as sildenafil can be safe and effective when prescribed appropriately, but they should not be used as a substitute for addressing the root cause of the problem. Apikene?!
