Steven John Karehana (also reported as Steven Karehana), a former police constable, has pleaded guilty to stealing a police-issued Glock pistol valued at about $1,204 from the Whanganui Police Station on 11 February 2026. He took it from the gun safe, gave it to an associate (who later sold it for $10,000 cash), and received $5,000 himself. He also faces a charge of unlawful possession of the firearm. Name suppression was lifted, and he is due to be sentenced in December.Nzherald
He had previously been publicly featured as a police recruitment success story (including in a “Ride Along” series), received a leadership award on graduating from police college, and spoke about overcoming earlier barriers (including a youthful criminal matter that had previously prevented him joining) to inspire young Māori to consider a police career. The photo in the image shows him in police uniform from that period; he has facial moko tattoos.Nzherald
Earlier reporting noted he tried to sell the Glock to a gang-linked person/associate.

Austrian government statements and proposals from late August–October 2026.
Chancellor Christian Stocker (ÖVP) has publicly called for a constitutional ban on “political Islam.” He has described it as incompatible with democracy and Western values, and stated variations of: he does not want Austrian children and grandchildren to grow up in an Islamic state. He has also said religious freedom is protected but ends where believers and non-believers are treated differently, men and women lack equal rights, or Austrian institutions, authorities, and courts are not respected.Europeanconservative
Integration Minister Claudia Bauer (ÖVP) has been tasked with preparing a concrete proposal (a “Punktation” or outline) for the coalition partners (SPÖ and NEOS). Reporting describes it as a multi-point package (including references to a 24-point framework in some coverage) that includes:
Outlawing or banning the Muslim Brotherhood (and related groups such as Hamas),
Stronger state oversight of Islamic religious education and teachers,
Related changes to association law, religious (Kultus) law, and other measures to combat Islamist influence in institutions.Kurier
Bauer has echoed Stocker’s stance, saying political Islam is directed against Austria’s free way of life, the freedom of girls and women, and peaceful coexistence of religions, and that the government will fight it “with all means available.”
Status: This is still at the proposal/discussion stage within the coalition. It is not yet enacted law. It follows earlier FPÖ resolutions on the topic (which the ÖVP had previously opposed) and builds on Austria’s existing Documentation Centre for Political Islam. The Islamic Faith Community (IGGÖ) has criticized the term “political Islam” as too vague for a legal ban and has pushed back on aspects of the plans.Religion.orf

Some things should just be left covered in fur.
Yes — it is a real photo of a bear without fur.
The animal is Dolores, a female spectacled bear (Andean bear, Tremarctos ornatus) at Leipzig Zoo in Germany. The photo was taken in November 2009 while she was suffering from severe hair loss (alopecia). Only sparse tufts of fur remained on her head and upper body; the rest of her skin was bare, wrinkled, and grayish.Iflscience
