Reports indicate people moving around Kampala with Police, confiscating hotspot equipment while claiming to be from Government. We have seen no official UCC notice. Please clarify and support affected young operators. #ICT#DigitalUga
Dear General Muhoozi Kainerugaba,
We come to you not as criminals, but as young Ugandans trying to survive through innovation, technology and entrepreneurship.
Across Uganda, many young people have built small businesses around community internet and hotspot services. For some, this is the only source of income they have created for themselves and their families.
Today, we are worried about what the ongoing enforcement against unauthorised Wi-Fi businesses could mean for these young entrepreneurs. Authorities have confirmed that enforcement is targeting public Wi-Fi operators who do not have the required regulatory approvals, while UCC has also called on operators to regularise their businesses.
Our humble request to you, CDF, is simple: please listen to the youth before their businesses and livelihoods disappear.
We are not asking for the law to be ignored.
We are asking for dialogue, guidance, a clear path to licensing, and an opportunity to regularise our businesses.
The hotspot industry has also helped many people access affordable internet, with UCC previously acknowledging the growth of neighbourhood Wi-Fi services and their role in expanding connectivity.
General, we believe that young innovators should be given an opportunity to correct what is wrong, comply with the law and continue contributing to Uganda’s digital economy.
We have families to support.
We have employees.
We have customers.
We have invested our little savings into these businesses.
We have dreams.
We therefore humbly appeal to you:
CDF, please hear the hotspotters.
CDF, please give us an opportunity to be heard.
CDF, please help us find a solution.
We believe Uganda needs more young people creating businesses and opportunities—not young people losing the little livelihoods they have built.
WE ARE YOUTH.
WE ARE INNOVATORS.
WE WANT TO WORK.
WE WANT TO COMPLY.
WE WANT TO BUILD UGANDA.
Our humble appeal: CDF, please look into our situation. @mkainerugaba@BalaamBarugahar@DaudiKabanda@AKasingye@FrankGashumba@SheilahGashumba@PNyamutoro@MwesigyeFranks

@UEDCLTD Bad morning, tried buying light since last night but its not working on all networks, uedcl customer service says its not on their side, the networks say its on uedcl side, so whats do we do?
@UEDCLTD We haven't had power in masajja kibira since yesterday and we are not on any planned shutdown list, please help get us back on, our businesses are crushing
@UEDCLTD In masajja we've suffered and still suffering, @UEDCLTD is doing a great job to remind of how the govt used to handle electric business in the 90s and early 2000s, last week we had a blackout, like every pole gets power from a difrnt line, one has, the next is off, this week too.
@uedcl_ how long do we have to go thru the on and off power ordeal in masajja, umeme was a lot better, you're killing our businesses, our appliances, is this why you took over from umeme, to bankrupt ugandans? Get serious, run the power supply like a business you really care abt.
@UmemeLtd what's wrong with your CIUs, we've been trying to load power since last night, it keeps saying "no cons" yet we've been using it for months, and no one can seem to be able to help us. We cant go another night in darkness.
