When Christians committed violence in the Middle East, I still call them Christians I don’t pretend they belonged to someone else’s faith just to avoid responsibility. I also don’t excuse what they did.
I do not accept that Muslim conquests and massacres were “normal” simply because the people who carried them out shared a religion. Jerusalem was a Christian holy city for centuries before it was taken by force in 637. That does not justify every Crusader action, but it shows that conquest and violence were not one sided.
