Messi’s equalizer against Egypt.
Being able to experience that live was something else.
When Egypt went up 2-0, the feeling in the air was somber, but the Argentina fans DID NOT STOP SINGING.
Some Egyptian fans were acting disrespectfully towards Argentina fans and were loudly mocking Messi.
Soon after, Messi assisted Cuti’s goal and they went dead silent. No more singing, chanting, or making fun of Messi. They were just clenching.
As soon as Messi scored the second goal, the stadium ERUPTED with cheering from Argentina fans.
The Egyptian fans immediately sat down, still silent.

Here’s the thing though…it wasn’t regular cheering: it was relief.
Relief that we weren’t all about to witness the GOAT go out in such embarrassing fashion and definitely not without a fight.
Watching Leo roll back the years in real time and start dribbling past players at will like as if he were 10 years younger again…the only way I can remotely describe it is that it felt like a religious experience.
We were witnessing true God-given talent in the flesh.
It’s not like we needed it, but it was just further confirmation that what we had witnessed from him for the last 20+ years was anything but a fluke.
