In September 1994, a number of people in Zimbabwe reported seeing strange lights streaking across the sky, which many claimed were UFOs. But the most chilling report came on September 16 at the Ariel School in Ruwa.
That day, dozens of children ran back to class after an outdoor break and told their teachers that they'd just had a strange encounter in the bush. The students said that they'd stumbled upon men in black and their silvery disks, which some described as aliens and others described as "zvikwambo," evil goblins from Shona and Ndebele folklore.
Before long, UFO experts and enthusiasts arrived on the scene to investigate. They interviewed the children, who further explained that the aliens had passed on a message, warning the students that humankind was mistreating planet Earth. To this day, many of the children stand by what they saw.
