OBOC is here, and we could not be more excited.
Our team is ready and beginning to welcome everyone as they arrive.
Please keep all of our CMIP and participants in your prayers this week.
We cannot wait to see what God has in store.
OBOC is just around the corner. As you prepare, take time to pray and open your heart to what God has in store. This week is more than an event. It is an opportunity to encounter Christ and grow in faith.
We are continuing to pray for each of you as you get ready.
I first met Bishop Godfrey Mullen, OSB in the summer of 2008 when I began an internship with @OBOCStMeinrad at @SaintMeinrad. I was in the sacristy before Mass while he was lighting the charcoal for the thurible, and the black discs caught my attention as they threw off sparks. Noticing my attention, he spoke his first words to me: "One day, this will be your soul."
Of course, he meant the purification of purgatory and not the fires of hell. I hope! I thought he was a little weird in that moment, but I had no idea that he would become one of the most important people in my life - someone who today I consider the only true mentor I've ever had. I could list all the times I have needed his help and guidance, but to make it brief those moments are many and he never failed or hesitated to be there for me to offer thoughtful words of encouragement or prayer.
I was delighted to learn that he was being made Bishop of his home diocese, and thrilled to receive an invitation to his ordination. He also gave me permission to take photos, something he knows I'm passionate about. Through the days leading up to his ordination, I could sense that he was a little nervous. Even during the Mass he was seemingly drawn introspectively inward, no doubt wondering what he was getting into, likely besieged by the same fleeting moments of doubt and thoughts many clergymen consider as they weigh their self-worth against their calling.
The transformation was almost instant. The moment Father Godfrey officially and ontologically became Bishop Godfrey, I could see the visual reality of an interior resignation of heart and soul to the will of God manifest. He looked down at the ring that symbolized both his new authority and submission of self to his flock, and smiled. The smile became a permanent expression until the end of the liturgy, an image of contentment and trust in the Lord. It's why I know he will be as good of a bishop to the people of Belleville as he has been a friend to me. If only we could all embrace our calling, responsibilities, and obligations with the same spirit of trust and love in Him who asks us to serve!
God bless you, Bishop Godfrey!
OBOC is almost here, and we cannot wait. A week to encounter Christ, grow in faith, and be part of something bigger.
Our team is hard at work preparing and lifting each of you in prayer. We are so excited to welcome you for an incredible week of faith, community, and encounter.
Bishop-Elect Godfrey Mullen was one of the single greatest influences on my Sister sister's life. His guidance and insights helped her first even consider religious life when she was at St. Meinrad's One Bread, One Cup youth program, and he's stayed in touch over the years, never failing to send birthday greetings year after year. He's a good one, and Belleville is blessed.
Definitely calling the convent to fill her in about this one.
