🚨🗣️ Jamie Carragher on Liverpool been rubbed off penalty after the red card at the halftime

🎙️Jamie carragher:“Look, I think this is a really poor situation for the Premier League. The biggest question for me is, how have the officials looked at that incident and come to that decision? That’s what I want to understand.

“Brentford have had a player sent off, and then you’ve got another big decision involving Liverpool that is going to be debated after the game.

“Now, I’m not saying Liverpool should get a penalty simply because they’ve had a difficult afternoon. That’s not how football works.

“But if there’s contact that warrants a penalty, then it has to be given. It doesn’t matter who the team is.

“What frustrates me most is the inconsistency. You watch one game, a similar incident happens and a penalty is awarded.

“Then you watch another game, exactly the same situation, and nothing is given.

“How are managers and players supposed to understand what constitutes a penalty if the decisions keep changing from one week to the next?

“And this is where I think the Premier League has a serious problem.

“We’ve brought in VAR to eliminate these mistakes, or at least reduce them, but we’re still sitting here after matches debating decisions that should be much clearer with the technology available.

“I’m a Liverpool supporter, so I understand people will say I’m looking at this through red-tinted glasses.

“That’s fair enough. But take Liverpool out of the conversation for a moment.

“If this happens to any other club, the same questions need to be asked.

“The officials have a responsibility to explain these decisions.

“You cannot expect supporters to accept everything without questioning it, especially when so much is at stake in this league.

“For me, the Premier League has to look seriously at the standard of officiating.

“The football is fantastic, the players are world-class, the managers are world-class, but the refereeing decisions are too often becoming the main talking point.

“And that shouldn’t be the case. We’re supposed to be talking about the football, the tactics and the performances.

“Instead, we’re talking about referees and VAR again. At some point, the authorities have to ask themselves why this keeps happening and what they’re going to do about it.”
