Why isn't Taiwan invited to participate in World Health Organization / World Health Assembly ❓
China's deliberate misinterpretation of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 since 1971 has resulted in Taiwan's exclusion from the UN system, including the World Health Organization. Taiwanese health officials and experts are systematically denied participation in annual World Health Assembly. Even holders of Taiwanese passports, including tourists and journalists, are barred from entering UN buildings around the world for tours or media interviews.
In reality, UNGA Resolution 2758 does not mention Taiwan and therefore has no relevance to Taiwan. It neither implies China’s "one China Principle" nor does it forbid Taiwan's participation in international organizations.
Taiwan urges the international community not to tolerate China's distortion of Resolution 2758 and to firmly refute it to prevent China from unilaterally altering the status quo in the Taiwan Strait and to safeguard regional security and the rules-based international order. Health is a fundamental human right, and the people of Taiwan should not and cannot be excluded from the WHO's global health network. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Taiwan has been one of the few countries effectively combating the virus. Taiwan's expertise in healthcare and technology can contribute significantly to global public health efforts. In the pursuit of global health security, Taiwan's rightful inclusion in the WHO is not merely an option but an imperative that demands immediate and unwavering action.

📣📣Director-General Jin-Ling Chen, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Toronto:
BIRDS OF A FEATHER🐦🐦
Could bird flu be the next catastrophic pandemic? The answer lies in our ability to learn from past pandemics and embrace inclusivity within the global community. This inclusivity is crucial in our fight against bird flu.
Positioned at a crucial intersection along the East Asian Flyway of bird migration, Taiwan is pivotal in the global battle against lethal viruses. Annually, an estimated 1.25 million migratory birds traverse or winter in Taiwan. This distinctive geographical location magnifies Taiwan's significance in tracking and combating deadly viruses. Its prompt notifications and dissemination of vital information, such as the H6N1 and H7N9 avian influenza cases in 2013 and 2017, underscore the imperative of its inclusion in global health organizations.
However, #Taiwan remains excluded from the #WHO and its affiliated organizations, including the Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System (#GISRS). The potential for another pandemic looms. Could treating Taiwan differently be a starting point to avert this?
