Thank you @OregonGovBrown for signing the watershed #SB1008 into law today! This bill transforms juvenile justice in Oregon, and @OregonDefense was honored to be a part of this journey to give Oregon’s youth a path to redemption. Ko & Marc—we did it! #orleg#orpol
“..it is imperative that Oregon change its constitution,” Sofia said. “...my fingers are crossed that the Supreme Court comes down the right way so that Oregonians begin getting a fair trial sooner than November 2020.” https://t.co/ks2BmRyklH
Sine Die 2019. This session, we made meaningful strides to fund public schools, support working families and reform our criminal justice system. #orleg#orpol
Rep @Jennifer_for_OR just spoke on HB 5050 just now saying $20 million allocated in this budget bill for public defense is meant to alleviate the crisis by addressing overbearing caseloads while we take steps in line with @6thAMD’s report from this year.
HB 3145, a policy bill overhauling the pub def system, was amended last minute last week to create a Task Force to study best system for pub def and report back in 2021. Senate voted against the gutted bill in, what I’m assuming is, a show of solidarity for our need 4 reform now.
There’s still money that’s hopefully coming our way. HB 5050, the x-mas tree budget bill, allocates $20 million additional dollars to OPDS’s baseline budget thru e-board (to be used to address caseloads/pay). Fingers crossed that bill makes it thru both chambers before 12am!

@BiomechanicR@CDRadnovich The bill, which was originally a substantive policy bill overhauling the pub def system, was gutted last minute last week to create a Task Force to continue to study the problem. The Senate voted against the gutted bill in, what I am assuming is, a show of solidarity.
Sprinting towards the finish line in Salem this weekend! Shout out to House Majority Leader Rep @jennifer_for_or for her leadership as the Chair of the House Judiciary Committee this session. We’ve accomplished so much this session, and it’s not over yet! #orleg#orpol
VICTORY! #DriversLicenses4All passes #orleg and head to the Governor’s desk! This is a historic moment for the 100,000 Oregon families that will now be able to apply for a driver’s license for the first time in over a decade.
Thank you Rep @Jennifer_for_OR for your sustained and unabated support of important criminal justice reform in Oregon! https://t.co/EO8snsuqCR @alizakap@ACLU_OR
Oregon state senator @BrianBoquistGOP said if R's walk out to stop a vote on Cap and Trade and @OregonGovBrown sends state police to bring him back, they should be single and well armed. Your take?
We have important policy that needs to make it through the Senate. Gov Brown has sent OSP out to find the missing Republicans...https://t.co/GkSuxSmqb4
So proud of Professor @alizakap, @OregonDefense, and team for submitting such a top notch Amicus Brief to the Supreme Court of the United States! Oregon Group Supports Overturning Louisiana Non-Unanimous Jury Conviction https://t.co/851HCnldIx thanks for the shoutout, @OPB !
