Remember when my grad class visited the DP library and found stuff like this in the Imprint archives? Like so many other institutions, UW has a history of violence. These aren’t isolated incidents. Empty platitudes don’t protect staff & students.
Created some collages highlighting the creepy history of subordinating women on campus at @UWaterloo, featuring newspaper clippings pulled from the library archives (mostly dated between the '60s and '70s).
Who is speaking. What are they saying. The shocking attack was a classroom knife attack that injured a professor and two students, in a philosophy course on gender. We need specific, concrete nouns here. Name it.
The university says "there is no risk to the campus community" but a gender studies class by a female prof in the humanities targeted deliberately feels a lot like collective ideological danger that has now tipped into violence. You can't arrest one person and call it a day.
Respectfully, is silence what’s needed right now? Or a clear, direct, and LOUD statement against hatred, violence, misogyny, etc. Silence does not make members of the campus community feel safe or protected.
Today at 3:15pm, our campus community will gather in the Arts Quad in recognition of the shocking attack and trauma we endured yesterday.
Remarks will begin at 3:30pm followed by a moment of silence at 3:37pm.
Breaking my Twitter silence because I watched Party Girl (1995) last night and absolutely need to ID this sweater. Anyone know who made it? Or if there’s a pattern out there for it? #knitting
Solidarity w/ the Ontario education workers organizing for decent working conditions. Funds are always available for surveillance, jails, repression, while life affirming social needs are decimated. education is a social need and good and workers deserve our support right now.

!!! I recently checked train routes between Calgary and Vancouver because I figured there must be an easy alternative to flying between 2 major cities and I was alarmed at how complicated/EXPENSIVE it is. Grateful to be along the QC-Windsor corridor or idk if I’d go home as much.
My kid is moving from Regina to Montreal with a stop in Toronto. She wants to fly less during the climate crisis, so she decided to take the train. What she has discovered provides a glimpse into just how hard it is for carless western and remote Canadians to travel. 1/n
My research group is presenting at the salon du livres anarchiste / montréal anarchist bookfair next weekend! We’re discussing queer ecologies, phenomenology, and what’s left of the self at the end of the world. Msg if you want to come by & I’ll share details 📚
