Avoid getting ahead of yourself:

i.e. assuming you are wanted wherever you’re going.

But also, don’t shoot yourself in the foot:

Assuming no-one likes you.

The key here, I believe, is to not get ahead of yourself - or shoot yourself in the foot - in whatever you do.
