@RubberNews is reporting Orion got “top marks” for employee safety in 2025.
The story notes that Orion achieved a safety record for employees last year that was nine times better than the average for the chemical manufacturing industry.
Quoting CEO Corning Painter, the story says, “It’s a widely held view in industry that a strong safety record reflects strong operating discipline. We reached a new level in 2025 on the safety front, and our commitment is to keep building on the success.”
Congratulations to our Huaibei team for advancing our work in delivering sustainable solutions.
Maybe in comments, we can say: Here is the official announcement by the Huaibei municipal government:

Our newest plant has earned the "Green Factory" designation in China.
The facility in the eastern city of Huaibei received the honor after a rigorous process that included recommendations by regional authorities, assessments by experts and public comments.
It also verifies transparency and traceability for the sustainable raw materials in our value chain.
This recognition supports our broader efforts to strengthen sustainability across our network and to provide customers with materials that meet internationally accepted standards.
Our plant in Qingdao, China, has received @ISCCSystem – the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification.
The certification follows a detailed audit confirming that the site meets ISCC’s sustainability requirements.
Soot and carbon black — are they the same?
They’re often mixed up, but they’re different in important ways. Carbon black is a manufactured material made under strict controls for use in products like tires and coatings.
Soot is an uncontrolled byproduct of burning fuels and can carry harmful chemicals, like carcinogens and heavy metals.
Why it matters: Soot particles can stay airborne, enter the lungs and even the bloodstream, raising risks for respiratory disease, heart problems and cancer
Why are conductive additives such an important part of EV battery design? Our colleagues Michael Rohde Ana Kiricova discussed the issue in a wide-ranging Q&A story with EV Engineering Online. Link in comments.
