Firefighters contained a fire inside the walls of a multi-unit structure this morning near the University of Ottawa.

At approx 06:27, the Ottawa Fire Services Communications Division received a 9-1-1 call reporting smoke and flames at the back of a two-storey single family multi-unit structure in the 100 block of Daly Ave. Firefighters arrived on scene 3min after being dispatched to call and confirmed smoke and flames on an exterior wall that had travelled inside the walls of the structure. Firefighters began extinguishing the flames and searching the structure for any occupants. An OC Transpo bus was sent to the scene to shelter the approx. 20 residents who had evacuated the structure. Firefighters opened up parts of the walls inside the structure to locate and extinguish the flames. The fire was declared under control at 07:45. Two full searches were done of the structure and no occupants were found inside. High pressurized fans were used to ventilate the residual smoke out of the structure. Victim Assistance was called to the scene for approx 15 residents that will be displaced. A "fire watch" was established to have a truck remain on scene to monitor for hot spots. An @OttFire Investigator was dispatched to the scene. There are no reported injuries. #OttNews

Firefighters quickly contained a garage fire in Orleans last night before it could spread to the rest of the home.

At approx. 18:44 last night, the Ottawa Fire Services Communications Division received multiple 9-1-1 calls from neighbours reporting smoke and flames coming from the garage of a single family home in the 600 block of Stellar St. Firefighters arrived on scene 3min after being dispatched to the call and confirmed smoke and flames coming from the the garage. A "working fire" was declared to dispatch additional resources to the scene. Firefighters initiated a fast attack and advanced a hose line towards the garage area. Firefighters pulled down the soffit and the drywall to open up the areas of the garage where the flames had travelled and began extinguishing them. The fire had spread into the eaves and attic but Fire crews brought it under control at 19:15 before it could spread to the rest of the house. Two full searches were done of the structure and there were no occupants inside. High pressurized fans were used to ventilate the residual smoke that made its way inside the home. There are no reported injuries. An @OttFire Investigator was dispatched to the scene. Two adults will be displaced by the fire due to the fact that the hydro panel was burnt off and therefore the house had no power. #OttNews

Our Rope Rescue Team successfully rescued a resident from a cliff yesterday afternoon near the Alexandria Bridge.

At approx. 13:25 yesterday, our partners from @OttawaPolice requested us to respond to the Alexandria Bridge where a resident was stuck on a cliff after climbing up from below the bridge towards the Samuel de Champlain Statue. Our Rope Rescue Team was dispatched and set up at the scene. It was confirmed the resident was approx. 15ft down the cliff and unable to get to safety. One of our rescuers was lowered by rope over the cliff and down to the resident. The resident was then put into a harness by our rescuer and at 14:15 the resident was safely brought up over the railing. The scene was left in control with the Ottawa Police. #OttNews

At approx. 12:11, our partners from @OttawaPolice requested us to respond to the 100 block of Locheland Cres after a vehicle was driven through the wall of a single family home. Firefighters arrived on scene 4min after being dispatched to the call and confirmed the vehicle was driven through the garage door and through one of the walls of the garage. Both occupants were out of the vehicle upon our arrival. The structural integrity was compromised and our Structural Collapse Team was dispatched to the scene. Crews shored up the areas of the home that were compromised prior to removing the vehicle. Once the home was stabilized, a winch was used to remove the vehicle at 14:34. Crews are still on scene doing more shoring. A City building inspector has responded to the scene. The occupants of the home will be displaced. #OttNews

Firefighters from Station 36 had their work cut out for them today when they spent 1.5 hours trying to locate a family cat that had been missing for 3 days in the 1800 block of Thornecrest St.

The cat got into the ceiling 3 days ago but, through the use of a thermal imaging camera, Firefighters were able to determine that the cat fell down a shaft and was at the bottom of a wall near the front door.

The cat was safely extricated and there will be some minor drywall repairs to be done.🐱🚒

Firefighters battled a large structure fire in Stittsville yesterday.

At approx. 17:38, the Ottawa Fire Services Communications Division received a 9-1-1 call reporting a large single family home in the 0-100 block of Ridingview Cres had flames coming out of the attached garage. Upon arrival, Firefighters confirmed the flames had spread from the garage right up to the attic of the home with the flames going through the roof. Firefighters initiated a fast attack and began extinguishing the flames. It was confirmed from the home owners that all the occupants had safely exited the home. This fire was in an area of the city with no hydrants so Firefighters set up a water shuttle system using our tanker trucks to bring water in from a nearby water source. An aerial ladder was set up to attack the flames from above. Several exclusion zones were set up by our Safety Officer due to the risk for Firefighters of multiple areas of the home collapsing to the ground. Firefighters set up a defensive attack to attack the fire from the exterior due to the dangerous conditions inside the structure. The fire was declared under control at 19:35. An excavator was called to the scene to move the debris so Firefighters could extinguish hot spots. An @OttFire Investigator was dispatched to the scene along with Victim Services. We cleared the scene at 00:24 when all the hot spots were confirmed to be extinguished. #OttNews
