In transport, certificates are issued to suppliers of biofuels to help meet their renewable fuel obligation. Incentivising biofuels in this way has greatly reduced emissions. The same logic can be applied to #heating, whereby suppliers of #HVO would receive renewable certificates

In advance of @Economy_NI’s consultation on decarbonising the heating sector in NI, I am supporting a Bill in Parliament to permit the use hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) as a heating source for domestic boilers.

Biofuels have a key role to play in decarbonisation.

Interesting development. Just as advanced biofuels can be used to lower emissions from existing ICE vehicle engines, they can also be used to lower emissions from existing boilers. Their use could drastically reduce heating emissions very quickly in homes across Ireland.

We have re-commissioned a newly installed boiler in NI to run on HVO in County Down. The homeowner wants to reduce his #carbonfootprint and is running his central heating on HVO and utilising solar and battery for electricity use 👍
