Suvarnabhumi Hit by Delays and Baggage Chaos as TAT Claims Operations Normal
Flight delays, prolonged baggage waits and stranded luggage have disrupted Suvarnabhumi Airport after flooding prevented ground staff from reaching work. Airport authorities also reported equipment failures and insufficient personnel, while the Air Force deployed 69 people to support ground operations.
One passenger said Thai Airways flight TG106 to Chiang Mai remained at the airport nearly six hours after its scheduled departure. Passengers waiting at Gate A4 were allegedly given no explanation, while checked baggage prevented them from leaving.
The disruption contrasts sharply with TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool’s claim that Suvarnabhumi was operating normally. Although the airport remained open and flights were not cancelled on a mass scale, passengers were experiencing serious operational and communication failures.
Calling the airport “open” was accurate; describing its operations as “normal” was not.
