Buying fuel today feels very different from what it did a decade ago.

With petrol selling for around N1,300 per litre, many Nigerians are making tougher choices about how they travel, run their businesses, and manage everyday expenses.

But what happens when Nigeria’s biggest source of revenue takes a major hit?

In 2016, oil prices fell from over $112 per barrel to below $50, inflation climbed above 18%, and the naira came under pressure.

The impact was felt across the country as Nigeria entered its first recession in 25 years.

The government responded with the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP), a blueprint designed to restore growth, create jobs, invest in people, and build a more diversified economy.

Nearly a decade after the ERGP was introduced, we look back at the ERGP, what it set out to achieve, the progress made, and the targets that remained unfinished.
