OKFAHC supports efforts to improve transparency and help patients better understand prescription costs before they arrive at the pharmacy counter.
Recent calls from Secretary Kennedy and federal health leaders to expand the use of Real-Time Pharmacy Benefit Technology (RTBT) highlight the growing importance of giving patients and providers access to real-time prescription pricing and lower-cost alternatives during the prescribing process.

Improving transparency is an important step, and it will be equally important to ensure these tools are implemented in a way that is easy to use, includes all cost-saving options, and doesn’t create new barriers for patients or providers.
Medical paperwork isn’t always easy to understand, and billing errors can add up quickly. New consumer guides from U.S. PIRG break down how to read an Explanation of Benefits (EOB), check for mistakes, and challenge charges that don’t look right.
Knowing how to review your medical bills can help you avoid paying more than you should.

❤️ Women’s Health Month ❤️
Throughout the month of May, Oklahoma Families for Affordable Healthcare recognizes Women’s Health Month and the importance of accessible, affordable healthcare for women at every stage of life.
Women’s health impacts families and communities across Oklahoma every day.
This month serves as a reminder to prioritize wellness, encourage preventive care, and support policies that help ensure women have access to the care and resources they need to live healthy lives.
OKFAHC supports Governor Stitt’s veto of SB 1500 and encourages lawmakers to uphold the veto.
Oklahoma patients deserve access to cost-saving tools and discount programs that help lower prescription costs at the pharmacy counter. Policies that limit those options risk increasing costs for families and reducing access to affordable medications.
As healthcare affordability continues to challenge Oklahoma families, we believe protecting consumer access to lower-cost prescription options should remain a priority.
💙 This Mother’s Day, I’m especially grateful for my mom. She was a single mom who worked full-time and still showed up for everything. She is one of the hardest working people I know. I remember her making sure we got to every doctor’s appointment, picking up our prescriptions when we were sick, and quietly worrying about how to make everything fit in the budget.
Her example is a reminder that so many mothers are not only caregivers, but also the ones managing the household finances—including the rising cost of healthcare and prescription medications.
At Oklahoma Families for Affordable Healthcare, we believe our policies should support families—not add to that burden. This Mother’s Day, we honor the strength, sacrifice, and love of moms across Oklahoma.
OKFAHC is encouraged to see HB 4092 by Rep. Kevin Norwood continue advancing through the Legislature.
The 988 Mental Health Crisis Lifeline has become a critical resource for thousands of Oklahomans each month, and ensuring continued access to mental health and crisis services is incredibly important. HB 4092 would help create long-term stability for the program as federal funding changes in the years ahead.
We appreciate Rep. Norwood’s continued efforts this session to strengthen care resources for Oklahoma families across our state.

Oklahoma Families for Affordable Healthcare applauds the passage of SB 1436 by Rep. Cynthia Roe.
Families experiencing pregnancy loss deserve compassionate care, clear communication, and access to important information during incredibly difficult moments. SB 1436 would help ensure hospitals provide families with consistent guidance and resources related to fetal death certificates and certificates of birth resulting in stillbirth.
We appreciate lawmakers’ continued efforts to support Oklahoma families with dignity, compassion, and access to information when they need it most.

Their compassion, dedication, and tireless work make a difference in communities across our state. Thank you to all the nurses serving Oklahoma patients with skill, kindness, and heart. 👩⚕️🩺
🌿 May is Mental Health Awareness Month 🌿
Oklahoma Families for Affordable Healthcare is encouraged to see legislation by Rep. Kevin Norwood continue advancing through the Legislature.
SB 1369 would help ensure the long-term stability of Oklahoma’s 988 Mental Health Lifeline, protecting access to critical mental health and crisis services for Oklahomans when they need them most.

OKFAHC is happy to see a measure by Rep Marilyn Stark continuing to advance.

🚨STOP Higher Prescription Costs in Oklahoma🚨
Oklahoma families are already struggling with rising healthcare and prescription drug costs. Now, lawmakers are advancing SB 1500—a bill that could increase costs across the healthcare system and ultimately shift those costs onto patients and families.
SB 1500 may sound technical, but the impact could be very real:
💊 Could limit patients’ ability to use prescription savings apps and other discount programs that help lower costs at the pharmacy counter
💸 Higher out-of-pocket prescription costs
📈 Increased premiums and healthcare expenses
It’s part of a broader trend this session of policies that benefit one part of the healthcare system while shifting higher costs onto patients, families, employers, and taxpayers.
At OKFAHC, we believe patients should come first. Oklahoma families need relief from rising healthcare costs—not more policies that make care less affordable.
📢 Tell lawmakers to OPPOSE SB 1500 and stand up for Oklahoma consumers.
OKFAHC is encouraged to see HB 3934 by Rep David Smith continue advancing through the Legislature.
Improving access to dental care — especially in rural and underserved areas — is an important step toward improving overall health outcomes for Oklahoma families. The bill would help expand access to care by modernizing supervision requirements, supporting teledentistry services, and increasing flexibility for dental providers serving communities across the state.
We appreciate lawmakers’ continued focus on improving affordable healthcare accessibility for Oklahomans.

🚨 Oklahoma Families Can’t Afford Higher Prescription Costs 🚨
OKFAHC Executive Director Julie McKone was featured in a recent KFOR story, sharing the patient perspective on SB 2074—and why policies like this matter for Oklahoma families.
Her message is simple: when you add costs at the pharmacy counter, patients feel it.
Governor Stitt got it right.
In vetoing SB 2074, he recognized that this bill would insert government into pricing, pick winners and losers, and ultimately shift costs onto Oklahoma families, employers, and taxpayers.
At Oklahoma Families for Affordable Healthcare, we are a nonpartisan organization fighting for lower costs and more accessible care. We support pharmacies and the vital role they play—but not by adding a $10 fee to every prescription and asking patients to pay more.
📢 Now lawmakers are considering whether to override that veto.
We urge them to stand with Oklahoma families and uphold the Governor’s decision.

🎥 OKFAHC ED Julie McKone sat down with Dr. Kelton Oliver, retired physician & veteran, on SB 2074.
His message: higher Rx costs = fewer meds filled.
Gov. Stitt was right to veto this hidden “pill tax.”
📢 Tell lawmakers: uphold the veto.
Thousands of seniors may be forced to change their Medicare Advantage plans in 2026 — even if they were happy with their coverage.
A new study found that nearly 10% of Medicare Advantage enrollees will have to find a new plan because their current plan is leaving their area. In previous years, that number was closer to 1%.
When plans exit markets, patients may suddenly have to:
• Switch doctors
• Change medications
• Find a new plan during enrollment
For seniors managing chronic conditions, these disruptions can create real challenges.
Healthcare policy should focus on protecting stability and access to care for patients — especially seniors who depend on consistent coverage.
