Oklahomans for Criminal Justice Reform serves as a catalyst for systemic change in Oklahoma's criminal legal system to promote just & appropriate accountability
Two men driving thru Canadian County had over $100,000 in cash confiscated by a sheriff during a routine traffic stop.
The men—of Vietnamese descent—were on their way to buy some farmland. They had saved up the money for many years.

New Year, New Oklahoma! The more we learn, the better we can advocate. The better we advocate, the more we can change #Oklahoma. Let's do some micro-learning on how understanding our justice system helps us build a fairer, stronger state.
Justice shouldn’t depend on your ZIP code—or your ability to pay. Oklahoma’s patchwork of fines and fees creates unequal outcomes and puts harmful pressure on courts to collect revenue instead of uphold fairness.
ICYMI: OCJR is celebrating our 10th anniversary 🎉
Ten years ago, we set out to change #Oklahoma’s criminal legal system.
To mark this milestone, consider donating $10 for 10 years to help us continue making community-driven impact across Oklahoma.
Our Policy Counsel was featured in @OklahomaWatch reporting on Oklahoma’s growing prison population. Take a look at the legislation that could curb over-incarceration and unnecessarily long sentences for elderly Oklahomans. #okleg

When incarceration numbers don’t match admissions, it points to a system built on excessive punishment, not rehabilitation. Long sentences drive prison growth, strain families, and cost taxpayers — without making communities safer.
Who are we really incarcerating in #Oklahoma? From 18-year-olds just starting out, to seniors aged 60+, Oklahoma locks up people at rates far beyond the national average. It’s time to rethink our approach to justice.
Policy decisions shape Oklahoma’s prison population—and they can shape a better path forward. This reporting shows why lawmakers have the power to reverse current trends through smart, evidence-based reform. ⬇️

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and happy holidays from Oklahomans for Criminal Justice Reform. This season, we hold close those who are celebrating apart from loved ones because of the carceral system—and recommit ourselves to building a more just and compassionate Oklahoma.
Oklahoma is proving that true reform can shift resources from punishment to prevention, strengthen communities, and prioritize long-term safety and well-being.
This holiday season, 25,000–30,000 Oklahoma children are spending their days apart from a parent behind bars. For many families, the season of togetherness is a reminder of the distance incarceration creates.
When a mother goes to prison, a whole family serves the sentence.
With 62% of incarcerated women caring for children under 18—and reunification rates at just 21%—our system continues to fracture families instead of supporting them. Oklahoma can choose a better path.

Today we honor Mother Viola Fletcher — a survivor of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre whose voice reshaped history. Even in losing her, we carry her fight for truth, dignity, and justice forward.
The numbers tell the story. Oklahoma deserves a justice system that is fair, effective, and rooted in real data and best practices — not outdated policies.
We’re proud to be featured in this growing movement to turn the justice system into something that strengthens families, communities, and safety for all.
