I didn’t have a personal relationship with the keynote speaker at the recently concluded YFON Interactive Session & Dinner, Professor Femi Mimiko, MNI. @MrTomide helped reach out to him and sent the formal letter requesting that he serve as the keynote speaker. When I eventually met him personally to officially invite him, he said something that was deeply encouraging. He told me that before accepting the invitation, he had to conduct his own background check on my personality and the YFON platform. Thankfully, the feedback he received was very positive. That honestly gave me so much happiness. Knowing that someone of his calibre took the time to independently assess who I am and what YFON represents and comfortably associated himself with the platform meant a lot to me. After the event, he also described it as a very well-organised and well-put-together event.
Those words of commendation will live with me for a very long time. Sometimes, the greatest reward for the work you do is not money or recognition. It is hearing from someone you respect that you got it right.

These days, I don’t see the need to make enemies, and I don’t feel any pressure to be close to everyone either. I have intentionally built my life in a way that doesn’t depend on people. If we get along, that’s fine. If we don’t, that’s fine too. I don’t lose sleep over who likes me or who doesn’t. My family will always come first. After that, I invest my time, energy, and loyalty in people I am convinced genuinely care about me. I have learned that peace comes from knowing where you belong and not forcing yourself into places or relationships that aren’t meant for you.

Life is a lot lighter when you stop trying to be everything to everyone and simply focus on what truly matters.

I received the outgoing British High Commissioner to Nigeria, His Excellency, Dr Richard Montgomery CMG, in my office today.

Asides being a diligent diplomat, Dr Montgomery remains a partner and a huge admirer of the reforms and innovation in the Ministry of Interior in the last three years.

I am optimistic that his successor will further strengthen the relationship between the United Kingdom and Nigeria.

Sometimes it takes going through real trouble before you realize how little the noise around you actually means. The applause, the hype, the constant hailings, they often disappear the moment life gets difficult. That’s when you discover who genuinely cares, who shows up, and who only enjoyed being around your success. Don’t build your life around validation from the crowd. Build genuine relationships, value your family, and appreciate the few people who stand by you when there’s nothing to gain. Those are the people who truly matter.

Today marks another significant victory for Nigerian students.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has successfully secured a registration platform for Students University of Lagos (UNILAG) who were unable to complete their registration before it was closed. Following our engagement with the university management, the affected students will now have the opportunity to register.

In another major achievement, NANS has also secured the reinstatement of Students’ Union activities at NILETS, Zaria.

What makes these victories even more remarkable is that they were achieved through constructive engagement, dialogue, and purposeful advocacy—without a single protest or threat of protest.

This is the new direction of NANS: a leadership committed to strategic engagement, constructive dialogue, and results-driven advocacy. We remain unwavering in our resolve to protect the rights and welfare of Nigerian students while fostering productive relationships with relevant stakeholders.

The struggle continues, but so do the victories.
