More good news for Alberta's energy sector.

Wolf Midstream has made a final investment decision on a $500 million expansion of its NGL North system. It will create new processing capacity northwest of Fort McMurray and near Mariana Lake. This investment will also include a new cogeneration facility in Sturgeon County, and a bigger rail terminal to move product to market.

Here is what that means:
✔️More ethane, propane and butane recovered from Alberta natural gas.
✔️More feedstock for the petrochemical industry in Alberta's Industrial Heartland. ✔️More product moving to customers here at home and overseas.

Earlier this week I signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Premier of Saskatchewan Scott Moe @PremierScottMoe and Premier of the Northwest Territories RJ Simpson @RJSimpson_NWT to establish a framework for the three jurisdictions to advance collaboration and information-sharing related to nuclear generation technologies, including large-scale nuclear reactors, small modular reactors and microreactors and to enhance regional transmission infrastructure.

This agreement builds on Alberta’s ongoing work to explore nuclear energy’s potential, while bolstering grid reliability across the region.

Today's federal announcement makes Canada a more competitive place to invest. That is welcome and overdue.

Canada's tax rate on new business investment now sits at 6.4 per cent. The American rate is 16.9 per cent. That is a real shift and it moves the case for building in Canada in the right direction.

Alberta is where that shift will go furthest. The lowest corporate tax rate in Canada. No provincial sales tax. No payroll tax. A regulatory burden we have cut by 36 per cent.

Congratulations to the new MLA for Calgary Shaw, Kyle Campbell.

The voters of Calgary-Shaw have spoken and our UCP government will work constructively with their new MLA to ensure their constituency’s needs are fully addressed.

I’d also like to thank our UCP candidate, Mike Derry, who worked so hard and put his name forward to serve his community. Thank you as well to all of the candidates and volunteers who participated in the democratic process.

Our UCP government will continue to work every day to grow our province’s economy, strengthen our core social services and build a stronger Alberta.

We were pleased to partner with Invest Alberta @Invest_Alberta for two exciting events today, ahead of the Canada Investment Summit tomorrow.

First, we hosted a reception for international investors, entrepreneurs, and prominent global leaders, as well as federal and provincial governments officials. I shared how Alberta’s growing economy, highly skilled workforce, strong fiscal management, low taxes, and commitment to reducing red tape makes us an incredible destination for investments in all sorts of industries.

Then we visited the Toronto Market Exchange where I had the unique honour of being the first Premier of Alberta to officially close the markets and witness energy stocks trading near record high levels!

I reminded everyone that Alberta’s doors are always open, and Canada’s finance and investment community has a standing invite to walk on in.

Yesterday I arrived in Toronto ahead of the Canada Investment Summit this week. I met with representatives from JPMorgan Chase @jpmorgan to discuss their Alberta operations and where they have opportunities to grow.

Then I stopped into the Team Canada Kick-off Reception with my colleagues, Alberta’s Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade, and Immigration Joseph Schow @JosephSchowAB, Minister of Technology and Innovation Nate Glubish @nateglubish, and Tara Sawyer @TaraSawyer23 to visit with some of Canada’s most prominent business leaders and sell Alberta as the premiere destination for new investment across industries.

Recently, at Alberta's Industrial Heartland Association conference we talked about the major investments coming to the region, and all the jobs they will create. The $13 billion Meta data centre in Sturgeon County, the Greenlight Electricity Centre that will power it with Alberta natural gas, and a new rail terminal moving 45,000 barrels a day of propane and butane to the coast - just to name a few.

Later on at the Business Owners & Managers Association (BOMA) Leaders Luncheon we talked about all the ways we help make those projects possible. Like building homes for the people moving here, downtowns worth investing in, a regulatory burden we have cut by 36 per cent.

Governments do not build an economy. Builders, investors and workers do. Our job is to listen to them and then clear the barriers out of the way.

Twenty-five years ago today, the world witnessed the deadliest terrorist attack in human history, which took nearly 3,000 innocent lives, including those of 24 Canadians. In the years that followed, thousands more would lose their lives to illnesses linked to the attacks.

Today, Alberta joins people across Canada, the United States, and around the world in remembering those who were taken from us, the families who still carry their loss, and the first responders whose extraordinary courage saved countless lives.

Twenty-five years later, we’re reminded of the compassion and friendship that have long united Canada and the United States. We remember the Canadians who opened their homes and communities to thousands of stranded travellers, and the thousands of brave Canadians who answered the call to defend our country and our allies in the War on Terror, especially the 158 Canadian Armed Forces members who lost their lives.

We have always stood and will continue to stand side by side with our American neighbours in times of need, and as friends and allies, we remain resolute in defending the freedoms and values that terrorism sought to attack.

We will always remember.

More great news for Alberta's growing aviation economy.

Lufthansa Technik is building its Canadian headquarters at the Calgary airport and Flair Airlines has now signed on for the next fifteen years. That is 160 skilled aviation jobs for Albertans and a signal to the rest of the industry about where the work is going.

Beautiful day for golf and a great turnout for our first annual UCP golf tournament hosted by the Honourable Rebecca Schulz @rebeccakschulz and our team.

I parked myself at Hole 1 and got to say hello to every group as they came through. No shortage of good conversations, and a few generous offers to let me take a swing.

Yesterday the Federal Government announced that new oil sands facilities and gas-fired electricity plants will no longer be regulated under C-69. These projects will now be left to the provinces to regulate and approve.

This fulfills a promise made by the Federal Government to Alberta in our MOU implementation agreement signed previously.

This reform will decrease costly duplication and regulatory uncertainty. It will also help our energy and electricity sectors attract investment and grow.

C-69 still needs to be either repealed or amended further to fully respect provincial autonomy and reduce regulatory uncertainty - and we will continue to pursue our case in front of Alberta’s Court of Appeal to help facilitate these needed changes.

However, there is also no doubt that today’s decision by the federal government is yet another needed step in the right direction for Alberta and all of Canada 🍁
