PRESS BRIEFING BY THE DIRECTOR GENERAL, CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS DEPARTMENT (CID), GHANA POLICE SERVICE

Today, I briefed the nation on four major operations led by the Criminal Investigations Department and the Tema Regional Police Command, targeting cyber-enabled fraud, human trafficking, and the illicit trafficking of firearms and ammunition.

These operations resulted in the arrest of 28 suspects and the rescue of 33 victims, reaffirming our commitment to dismantling organised criminal networks, protecting the vulnerable, and preventing criminals from exploiting Ghana as a base for their activities.

The Ghana Police Service remains steadfast in strengthening intelligence-led investigations, enhancing inter-agency and international collaboration, and ensuring that those who engage in cybercrime, human trafficking, and firearm-related offences are brought to justice.

Roads and Highways Minister Kwame Governs Agbodza has assured that road projects funded under the newly approved $500 million World Bank credit facility will be closely monitored to ensure quality execution, warning that contractors who fail to deliver on their commitments will face tough consequences.

Did you Know that in every 3 days 48,000 bags of cement equivalent to 2,400,000 kg and 5.3 to 5.4 million litres of petroleum products equivalent to 98 bulk road vehicles fuel tankers carrying approximately 54,000 litres of fuel transported from Tema to Buipe in the Northern part of Ghana through the Akosombo Port.

In just a single a single tug voyage , the vessel is capable of carrying equivalent of 48 articulated trucks and 98 fuel tankers from our road in one trip on the volta lake.

The Volta lake bulk haulage takes away nearly 100 fuel tankers and dozens of heavy trucks carrying cement, reducing highway congestion, road wear, fuel consumption, and transport costs.

We commend H.E President John Dramani Mahama for the “Big Push” Infrastructure Projects sets to transform Ghana’s Transportation Infrastructure.

POLICE ARREST TEN SUSPECTS FOR CYBER-ENABLED FRAUD AT MATAHEKO-AFIENYA; NINE VICTIMS RESCUED

An intelligence-led operation by the Tema Regional Police Command at Mataheko-Afienya resulted in the arrest of ten suspects, the rescue of nine victims of human trafficking, and the recovery of 28 laptop computers and 9 mobile phones believed to have been used in cyber-enabled fraudulent activities.

The Criminal Investigations Department remains committed to intelligence-led policing, digital forensic investigations, and collaboration with national and international partners to combat cybercrime, human trafficking, and other forms of organised crime. We encourage the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. Together, we can make Ghana a hostile environment for criminals and a safer place for everyone.
