The Coptic Orthodox Church has consistently supported the Palestinian people and condemned the actions of Israel, from Pope Kyrillos VI to Pope Tawadros II.
We encourage you to ask what can be learned from the faithful individuals whose stories we share this #BlackHistoryMonth .
How has the Spirit of God filled each of them, “in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship”? (Exodus 31:3)
In the struggle for Black liberation, spiritual life has been fuel to inspire resilient action against countless years of oppression and the absence of justice. Yet as Toni Morrison indicates, religious experience is often detached from Black life, experience, and progress.
At the Oriental Orthodox Solidarity Project (@OOSP__), we hope this renewed perspective provides a more complete picture of Black History – which is American History – one where the Divine is intricately involved in the motions and progress of a people.
"Do good to all. Do not distinguish in the [doing of] good between people’s race or colour or creed. Make peace between a man and his companions, for your Christ is a Lord of peace and a worker of it."
- Pope Kyrillos VI, 1960 Coptic Papal Letter on the Feast of the Nativity
I joined OOSP because my fight against racism is built entirely on my faith that recognizes the image of God in every person and exhorts me to love my neighbor. That faith propels me to act and not be silent in the face of injustice,

‘Why did you join the Oriental Orthodox Solidarity Project?’ Over the coming weeks, OOSP will be sharing member testimonies of their desire to build a community of care and action for a better future in our churches and our communities in the United States.
In doing so, we might fulfill our Christian mandate to both our society and the Body of Christ, for
“If one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.” I Corinthians 12:12-26
